Boeing is dealing with fallout ten days after a hole was blown into the side of an Alaska Airlines flight, with the airline announcing they will send its own inspectors into the plants that produce their planes. Tom Costello shares what we need to know.

NEW: A piece of the wall on an Alaska Airlines flight popped off mid-flight as the plane was traveling from Portland to Ontario, California. This is terrifying. After about 35 minutes into the flight, the side panel of the plane came off, reportedly sucking out passengers’ belongings including phones. A small child reportedly had to be held down so they weren’t sucked out. The child, who was closest to the missing panel, lost his shirt and his skin turned red from the wind. “Following tonight’s event on Flight 1282, we have decided to take the precautionary step of temporarily grounding our fleet of 65 Boeing 737-9 aircraft,” Alaska Airlines CEO Ben Minicucci said.

A passenger with dreadlocks is confronted after another traveler tells the crew they feel threatened by his behavior. Instead of calming things down, the situation escalates. The passenger starts yelling, cussing, and arguing loudly with airline staff. Crew members warn him multiple times to settle down… but the shouting keeps escalating. At that point the airline makes a decision…he’s removed from the plane before the flight ever leaves the ground. A family got into a confrontation on a flight over seating arrangements - the airline asked that a child not sit on a parent’s lap which is a standard safety rule, and instead of working with the flight crew the father turned it into a full blown argument. The available seat was positioned between two children who were not part of their family and the crew was simply trying to find the least disruptive solution for everyone on board. Here is the thing - the father himself had a simple option right in front of him. Stay seated next to his own child and let his wife take the middle seat. Problem solved, no argument, no disruption to an entire plane full of people. Planning your seats before you board is part of traveling with a family and turning a solvable seating issue into a scene at 30,000 feet is never the answer. Who do you think was in the wrong here - the airline or the father?
