Pesci improvised much of his abuse toward the dealers, including throwing cards at them, giving the scene its raw, unpredictable energy. Filming at the Riviera took place between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. to avoid disrupting real gamblers. Some dealers and extras struggled to keep a straight face because Pesci’s improvised outbursts were so funny, forcing multiple takes; the scene allegedly took the longest to film for this reason.
