The “Hezbollah state” has the power to arrest (in effect, kidnap) members of the Lebanese Internal Security Forces and negotiate with the Lebanese state for their release. In light of the incident, negotiations began between the State of Lebanon and the “State of Hezbollah.” Hezbollah's representative in the negotiations was Ali Ayoub, head of Hezbollah's Security Committee, which is in effect the independent police force of the “State of Hezbollah.” Following the negotiations, Hezbollah released the security forces officer it had detained and promised to hand over the trucks to the security forces at a “later date.” In practice, this means that the trucks and their contents will not be handed over to the security forces. The Hezbollah operatives involved were not arrested or investigated. Hezbollah does as it pleases in Lebanon. This is yet another test case, this time in the context of internal security forces, which demonstrates the inability of the Lebanese security forces in general to confront Hezbollah on the issue of weapons. Ok so here’s what’s happening. For the past few days, pagers and radios used by Hezbollah terrorists to communicate and coordinate attacks on Israelis have been exploding. This is a major development in a war that began nearly a year ago, when Hezbollah, in coordination with Hamas, joined the attacks on Israel. On October 7 Hamas invaded Israel, murdering thousands of Israeli civilians and kidnapping hundreds more. The very next day on October 8th Hezbollah joined the war. Both of these terrorist groups are backed trained and funded by the Islamic Republic of Iran, the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism. And for the past 11 months, Hezbollah has fired over 8,500 rockets and drones at Israel, that’s almost 1000 attacks each month, forcing nearly 100,000 Israelis away from their homes. Dozens of Israeli civilians have been killed. Including, horrifically the 12 children who were playing soccer in Majdal Shams when an Iranian-made rocket, launched by Hezbollah, struck the playground and killed them. And this week, Hezbollah suffered a significant blow. Every single person who was carrying one of these devices was part of Hezbollah’s terrorist operation. If you had them, you are a part of Iran’s terrorist occupation of the Middle East and you are a part of Iran’s ring of fire that’s trying to take Israel down. While Israel has consistently shown restraint and made countless attempts to reach a ceasefire, Hezbollah has continued attacking Israel. The question we need to ask ourselves isn’t whether the war continues or whether there’s an agreement. In my opinion, if we look a little further ahead than, say, a day or two, the question is: Will this war end with an agreement or a unilateral ceasefire? It must be said that there is a very interesting development behind the scenes, which is that Hezbollah is pleading with the Iranians that any agreement or ceasefire—even a unilateral one, which is, of course, just a phrase, as there is always some sort of coordination behind the scenes—will also include an end to Israeli fire on Hezbollah. That is what Hezbollah is telling Iran. Israel, on the other hand, is telling the United States that there is no chance of that happening—it will not happen—because Israel’s strategic goal in 2024 was to sever the links between the Gaza and Lebanon fronts, and it succeeded in doing so, and its strategic goal in the Lebanon sector in 2026 is to sever the Tehran and Beirut sectors. To the extent that Israel does this—separating the octopus from its tentacles, or the lizard from its tail, whichever animal metaphor one prefers—it is a significant success on the path to the goal of simply strangling Hezbollah, and therefore this is a very significant point of contention.

The IDF says it has completed a wave of airstrikes targeting branches of the Hezbollah-linked Al-Qard al-Hasan association, which is known to be used by the terror group as a quasi-bank. Despite the statements published today in Lebanon, the facts remain that extensive Hezbollah military infrastructure still exists south of the Litani River. The goal of disarming Hezbollah in southern Lebanon remains far from being achieved. This can be seen in the attached video. Israel acknowledges the decision of the Lebanese government to address the disarmament of Hezbollah and some of the efforts the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) have made in this context. Nevertheless, these efforts are limited. Hezbollah continues to rearm with the support of Iran, whose foreign minister is arriving today for a visit to Lebanon. Hezbollah is rearming faster than it is being disarmed. Furthermore, it is regrettable that there are instances of cooperation between elements within the LAF and Hezbollah. It should be emphasized that the IDF's strikes against Hezbollah do not delay the goal of disarming the organization - on the contrary, they advance it.
