As someone who does events ... my 2 cents here... Especially your first time out , don't start from scratch. Get a venue that handles things for you. Tables, bar, and most importantly, an event coordinator. You will be way too busy to do all the details yourself , be part of the event, and emcee. Trust me. :) Also form committees now for some decision making. It's nice that you want to leave things open ended for everyone's input .... but you're going to end up with too many cooks in the kitchen. Divide the committee into sub committees for each area: ticketing, food, entertainment, equipment, merch, etc. Then you oversee them. Consider the date ... you're super close to Christmas, and that's rough for those of us who work. Also people with kids with holiday events, work parties, people already traveling for Christmas may not be able to travel twice in one month .... etc. I know there is a lot of momentum right now ... but I think you may not get the same turnout 2 weeks before Christmas that you would pushing it out a month or two after.

I’d prefer downtown Austin. Would be easier for us flying in, so we can get a room nearby with easier travel to/from venue. I posted on an earlier post about this too…my friend is in charge of hosting events at Jupiter Supper Club in Austin, in case that looks like it’ll be a good option. Also, 12/12 is the Army-Navy football game. I’m a naval academy grad, so I’d also like to meet up somewhere to watch the game as well, for anyone else who’d be interested.
