Border Force has failed to intercept a second migrant boat crossing the Channel in 24 hours. The boat reached Samphire Hoe, near Dover, on Tuesday afternoon. Border Security Command has detained 21 migrants so far. 🔗:

It is worth questioning how many other vessels have managed to arrive undetected. It is highly likely that numerous boats have bypassed security, potentially carrying illicit goods such as firearms and narcotics, or even adversaries of the state.

Either way - intercepted or not - those illegal migrants would always have ended up on UK soil because the French authorities aren't doing their job and are only too happy to let the boats launch. Border Force can't shove boats back over into French waters and, more importantly, if they do intercept any migrant boats, they are bound by SOLAS). Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Conventions: Under international maritime law, any unseaworthy or overcrowded vessel in distress triggers an absolute legal duty to rescue those on board. Channel dinghies are almost universally unseaworthy; overloading triggers immediate "distress" status, making rescue mandatory. This is the difficulty we're facing and, without real French interception, BF vessels will always be simply ferrying the illegals back to UK shores.
