Under Wu, commercial buildings are selling for 30-40% of their assessed values and the regulations and costs for building in Boston is so restrictive it makes it so financially unviable for developers to do anything with these half vacant buildings.

That’s one problem. The bigger problem is once a government program is established, It is never undone. All new programs are added to the existing budget. As taxes, go up people and corporations leave thereby lowering the overall tax base which causes more tax increases.

Harvard has been stiffing the City of Boston’s Payment in Lieu of Taxes requirement for over a decade. Their endowment is $56 billion. They need to start paying their fair share.
