Zelensky: We had no choice but to rebuild our own industry from scratch. And I believe that technologically, in drones and other areas, we were able to make such leaps because it was a question of survival. But when it comes to air defense, unfortunately, you know, hundreds of air-defense systems that Ukraine had in the 1990s were sold off, and this continued into the 2000s. These were Soviet systems, Soviet missiles — primarily S-300 air-defense systems. Nevertheless, we began working with our partners, and we are also working on these systems ourselves.

All day, rescue operations have been ongoing in Kryvyi Rih following a Russian ballistic missile strike. Four people were killed in this attack. My deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. Fourteen others were injured, and they have received the necessary medical assistance. These attacks and losses could have been prevented if we had the air defense systems we have long been discussing with our partners—systems that already exist in the world.

Electronic warfare did its job. Some of the missiles were also shot down – although, of course, it is extremely difficult to counter ballistic and aeroballistic missiles. Only a few systems in the world are capable of intercepting such missiles effectively – and to protect our entire territory, we need far more of these systems and the missiles for them. We are working with the United States to purchase additional Patriots, and we are very much counting on the support. I am grateful to every leader, to every one of our friends in Europe, in America, in Asia, who is trying to help.

We have upgraded the observation systems, advanced data assimilation tools, communication and IT infrastructure. The High Performance Computing (HPC) systems of 18 petaflops will be installed soon to support the ongoing efforts for enhancing the weather forecasting capacities.

Today, we managed to seek audience with the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among and a second meeting with HE Yoweri K Museveni. The urgency of the meeting was to discuss the issue of licensing of SACCOs by BOU. The President agreed that BOU should simply oversee flow of money in the SACCOs but not to take over control of these SACCOs through Regulations which don’t consider the unique nature of SACCOs as cooperatives. He has agreed to halt the recent announcement by BOU that gave SACCOs a deadline of 31st March 2026 until the laws are harmonized. He further agreed that SACCOs shouldn’t be taxed and is in favour of extending the tax holiday on SACCO. Thank you our dear President for being rational and understanding the issues of our people. Our dear SACCOs, u can now breathe. Thanks madam Speaker for being quick at finding solutions. Me and Elison Karuhanga representing Uganda Co-operative Alliance Ltd. the apex body of all registered cooperatives including SACCOs
