New data shows the cost to go to a bowling alley is becoming so unaffordable, it’s out of reach for many American families Private Equity Firms have started buying up bowling alleys and skyrocketing prices A company called Lucky Strike funded by private equity has been on a buying spree and now owns more than 1 in 10 bowling centers nationwide “In a growing number of cities, it can cost more than $150 for a family to bowl for a couple hours on a weekend, which led me to Wichita, Kansas, where locals take their bowling seriously. The city back in 2022 had 4 locally owned bowling centers, Then a Wall Street corporation came to town Lucky Strike. The company, fueled by private equity investments, bought 3 of the 4 bowling centers from the family that had owned them for years and has controlled the majority of lanes in the city ever since.l — The whole thing just feels like a microcosm of the modern American concept of corporate entities buy everything, they take over” Just since 2016 the cost to go bowling has doubled and some reports show it’s more than doubled Private Equity Companies like Bowlero and Lucky Strike now 350+ locations and use data-driven pricing and have reduced traditional leagues in favor of higher-margin entertainment Private equity firms are a literal cancer in America. They destroy every single thing they touch and ruin our way of life These private equity bowling alleys are even using dynamic pricing.. this is insane

NEW: Private equity is taking over bowling and pricing everyone out. Bowling alleys aren't just disappearing, they're being bought up — and one corporation now controls 35% of the revenue for the entire sport. We uncovered how Wall Street greed is ruining yet another pastime.

NEW LONG FORM VIDEO: Why nobody goes bowling anymore In the mid-1960s, bowling was one of America's most popular sports. There were more than 12,000 bowling alleys across the country, and top professional bowlers were signing multimillion-dollar endorsement deals that, in some cases, surpassed the earnings of golf's biggest stars. Today, the sport looks very different. More than two-thirds of those bowling alleys have closed, participation has steadily declined, and one of the industry's largest equipment manufacturers eventually exited the business altogether, choosing to make boats instead. How did one of America's biggest recreational sports fall so far from its peak? This is the rise and fall of bowling.
