Nicolas Cage recently sat down with David Marchese, writer and co-host of The Interview with the The New York Times & it’s not just the best interview I’ve ever heard Cage give, it’s one of the best interviews with an actor I can remember in recent history. This is such a thoughtful discussion. My biggest takeaway from the interview is as follows: Cage is a genius. Not just an artistic genius who is constantly pushing himself to be “interested” (interested is a word Cage constantly returns to in this interview), it’s that Cage’s memory/recall/understanding of art- across all mediums- is unbelievable. This man lives to soak up music, poetry, painting- and of course, Cinema. It’s honestly inspiring how much this man knows & cares about art. All that knowledge makes Cage endlessly fascinating to listen to, especially when it comes to Cage’s process for picking & choosing films. I’ve always appreciated how Cage refuses to do the same thing over & over. He doesn’t just want something new- he has to have something new or he won’t do it. If anybody out there is feeling bad about their life or a little hopeless or struggling with an injury, then this is the video for you. I still cannot understand how Stormzy made it back and is looking and acting as unbelievably well as he is today. It just fills my heart with so much joy. We've had a few tough losses recently with Apollo, Atlas, and little Al Pacino. I was just scrolling through my videos with dinner, looking at some of the success stories to try and remember the wins that we have. So so proud of this little boy. He's a perfect example of never giving up and always fighting because there is a better life out there ahead of us all.

my new song “BREAKDOWN.” is out on the 21st of June!!! 🖤🖤🖤 I wrote this poem because it’s been the hardest year for my mental health. In my life I’ve always never felt good enough, it’s just the thing that’s eaten me up. For as long as I can remember i have felt constantly afraid of how quickly my head can turn dark. It’s always been so hard to fight the darkness that i inevitably have. A lot of people will say it’s a phase and it will go away. But it doesn’t and the reality of the situation is I have to find strategies to deal with it. To put it plainly the things I don’t like about myself will probably never change, people tell me one day I’ll come-to terms with them one day but I want that day to be FUCKING NOW. This song is a message to myself to try and exist alongside my insecurities and my darkness by grounding myself and remembering what is real in life and the world is so much bigger than me. Try and get out of your head and notice the world around you, notice the things and people around you. Connect with them, the chances are they probably feel the same. Don’t let the bullshit inside your head consume you. It just wastes precious time. Remember what is real. Help people, be kind, help the world, help yourself. If you think you can’t do it, you can. You can get through this, trust me. Use this poem in a mornin to get u out of bed, use it when youre about to back out of something last minute, use it when you’re at your darkest. The fact that Tony Gilroy even got to write a Vader line feels really special to me and you can tell Tony took it seriously. Tony isn’t a Star Wars fan but he’s a REVERED professional writer and part of that comes from giving audiences incredible moments. Every moment of this scene is absolutely cool as fuck and even people who don’t like Star Wars are going to feel hype about it because it’s also HILARIOUS. Darth Vader is a drama queen. If you really want to get technical about the lore, Anakin stopped emotionally developing at age 22 and it makes Darth Vader hilarious. Every moment of this is what a 22 year old would do if a girl broke his heart. It’s exactly what a badass villain should be — spooky is the most important (which is why there’s SO MUCH spooky imagery and not as much dialogue) but he’s also smart and sometimes even charming. He’s the perfect villain and he needs to be treated with the proper gravitas. Actually — he needs to be treated with MORE gravitas because he’s also a supervillain icon and a true blueprint. As much gravitas as you think he needs, Gilroy gives him just a LITTLE more. Because he’s Darth fucking Vader, baby. This scene alone can make almost anyone enjoy Rogue One because it’s fucking hilarious. Tony Gilroy killed it. 10/10 my second favorite Star Wars moment ever. Incredible respect for an iconic villain.

The fact that Tony Gilroy even got to write a Vader line feels really special to me and you can tell Tony took it seriously. Tony isn’t a Star Wars fan but he’s a REVERED professional writer and part of that comes from giving audiences incredible moments. Every moment of this scene is absolutely cool as fuck and even people who don’t like Star Wars are going to feel hype about it because it’s also HILARIOUS. Darth Vader is a drama queen. If you really want to get technical about the lore, Anakin stopped emotionally developing at age 22 and it makes Darth Vader hilarious. Every moment of this is what a 22 year old would do if a girl broke his heart. It’s exactly what a badass villain should be — spooky is the most important (which is why there’s SO MUCH spooky imagery and not as much dialogue) but he’s also smart and sometimes even charming. He’s the perfect villain and he needs to be treated with the proper gravitas. Actually — he needs to be treated with MORE gravitas because he’s also a supervillain icon and a true blueprint. As much gravitas as you think he needs, Gilroy gives him just a LITTLE more. Because he’s Darth fucking Vader, baby. This scene alone can make almost anyone enjoy Rogue One because it’s fucking hilarious. Tony Gilroy killed it. 10/10 my second favorite Star Wars moment ever. Incredible respect for an iconic villain.
