For me, the first time I heard the Doors was at a Lowell High School dance in Whittier California in 1967. I went to California High School in Whittier but they had advertised it to us on posters mounted in our gym. Nobody knew yet who they were but a bunch of us decided to go. I think the tickets were like $5 and there were other bands I've forgotten. The Doors only played half a dozen songs but as soon as they started playing the first song- I think it was Back Door Man- I glanced at my friend and we just knew this was going to be one of the most memorable moments of our lives. They were so incredible.
