Breakdown on what it means when they say Drake raps in between the beats - he’s mastered that flow and it is often against the grain of what’s more common. Great video ⬇️

Another video diving into how Drake flows over the beat verses traditional. Gives an example of Marvin Rooms being on beat versus how Drake delivers it. Interesting stuff for those into the technicals of music.

Examples in contrast to Kendrick, Lil Wayne, Rakim etc provide a good comparison to understand it better.

There’s a video out there with 40 breaking it down.

Yea I rember when Joe Budden pointed out that Drake tends to rhyme on the 3 when most ppl rhyme on the 4 and it started making sense to me why I struggle to match him when I’m in the car 🤣

Ya’ll give him so much credit like he created the shit. I can name an emcee (Freeway) who don’t get half the credit ya’ll give Drake. Crazy.

This makes sense and explains why it’s hard to sing along at times cause I can’t time the entrance to the verse correctly 🤣

So drake starts rapping on the 2 beat, which gives it a different flow... Interesting. Where I come from we seldom start on the 1 beat. It's considered a white approach to rhythm... Very interesting observation man.

i like when he does this i call it statement rapping lol..cuz i clearly hear the statement w/out the beat muddying it..its like a convo & he’s talkin to me. He did dope, I want him to do how Drake fits hella syllables in a bar effortlessly where others would be off or sound wordy

This is a great breakdown but you’re mistaken thinking this is beholden to specific rappers. What you’ve pointed out is Drake just using a different flow on this specific verse. There are plenty of songs where Kendrick & Wayne uses this exact same flow. They’re all versatile

Compare to how Rick Ross and Drake start their verses on Lemon Pepper Freestyle 40 broke it down before. Drake raps in the “spaces” It makes his voice stand out over the beat more.

Argue with yourselves but Big Sean and Jay-Z’s flows are what you hear when you listen to your favorite Drake songs.

Many people would just say Drake isn’t rapping on beat. And they wouldn’t be wrong. You just like the song so we give it a pass. But other rappers have been made fun of for doing the same.

He’s basically going on the 2 instead of the 1. It would go unnoticed to someone that dot know how to count bars or even know where they begin and end. Excellent breakdown btw 👍🏾

Everyday this page tries to do the impossible and raise a nigga from the dead 🤣🤣 Y’all can’t rewrite history. We don’t care about his flow it’s redundant if he ain’t have meaningful lyrics to match. He need to take some notes from Kendrick he might learn a thing or two 😏
