However, what surprised me when I came to Japan was that young people don't seem very interested in politics or voting. Only less than 40% of young people actually go out to vote, which is something unthinkable in Germany. Another thing that shocked me was when I went out drinking with Japanese friends, they told me, 'In Japan, it's best to avoid talking about politics, religion, and baseball."
