Update: According to Reuters the plane “ran into problems at 30K feet. Had to land and was being escorted to D.C. by two military aircraft.“ The military aircraft broke away after the plane dropped under 6000 feet. I’m still trying to confirm whether it really did drop as rapidly as the flight tracking data shows.

Update: It appears that the initial data about a rapid decent of 28k feet in a minute was based off of bad tracking data.

A cessna plane at 29k? so a jet, not a prop? and it doubled back. doesn’t sound like the kind of descent you survive.
