South African Minister of Sports Gayton McKenzie, who once said he would go as far as “going to the hospital to switch off the oxygen supply of undocumented African nationals,” has now made a U-turn by urging South Africans not to engage in any violence on June 30, the date set for undocumented African nationals to leave the country, in what appears to be an attempt to win support for the South African national team from other African countries ahead of their matches in the World Cup.
