On the 1st leg of my trip through Europe, I stopped by the Omega watch headquarters and production factory here in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland! This state-of-the-art facility blends automation with human craftsmanship in a vertically integrated and modern campus which I got the privilege of seeing via a private tour by company officials! But what you may not know about the Omega watch company and it’s deep roots to NASA is that it has played a major role in all US space missions since this 1st spacewalk by Gus Grissom in the Gemini program back in the 1960s and being awarded the coveted Silver Snoopy Award by NASA as a mark of gratitude for its contributions to “the success of human space flight missions”, as well as to the successful return of the Apollo 13 crew! There is a truly unique museum here dedicated to the shared history between Omega and NASA with displays of historic hardware and watches, including the full history of the company, their links to the Olympics as the official time keeper, Hollywood movies and of course the US Space program! If you find yourself in Switzerland, this is a must see place to visit! Check it out!

It has been a year since I have been out of the country. Coming back to India after one year and landing right during the space day celebrations was a moment that I was not prepared for. The excitement, buzz and curiosity towards space has filled me with strong emotions and resolve towards our own missions. During the past year of training I travelled across the globe but the excitement for upcoming Indian human space missions was seen everywhere. I had the honor of meeting with NASA leaders and top U.S. aerospace officials in Houston, Texas. I was proud to present Pakistan’s vision for the future of space education—and the response was nothing short of inspiring. During these high-level meetings, our concept for a state-of-the-art Space Learning Centre emerged as a powerful new platform for global collaboration. I am thrilled to share that we have officially discussed and agreed on collaborating to establish this landmark space centre in Narowal! NASA and our industry partners have warmly welcomed deeper cooperation. We focused heavily on how to best utilize and uplift Pakistani talent. We already have some of the most brilliant, innovative minds and problem-solvers in the world—we just need to chisel those raw skills. So as soon as the cost to orbit drops to a low number, it immediately makes extremely compelling sense to put AI in space. It becomes a no brainer. Basically, more of a as you go to space, you get increased economies of scale, and things get easier over time, whereas as you try to put more and more power on the ground, you run out of space and you start using up the easy spots, and then you get next level. Nobody wants the thing in their backyard. So then increasing power on earth has becomes harder over time and more expensive over time, but in space it becomes actually cheaper and easier over time."

We are proud and excited to announce a historic $5M investment in our new spaceport, Spaceport Canada! This investment and project is being developed to support NordSpace's Tundra launch vehicle and bring Canada one major step closer to sovereign launch as the nation's first operational spaceport. Read all the details in our press release: Canada is the only G7 nation without sovereign launch capabilities. In addition to countless benefits for Canada’s national security, environmental protection efforts, and global leadership, such a capability would result in an estimated 650 new highly qualified personnel (HQPs) over the next decade alone and $2.5B in economic development. NordSpace is working actively with the Canadian Government to ensure the success of Spaceport Canada, and would like to thank Transport Canada, NAV CANADA, Global Affairs Canada, Canadian Space Agency, and Space Canada | Espace Canada for their continued support. A second launch pad, Pad B, is also planned to support partner launch vehicles under the upcoming Technology Safeguards Agreement with the United States. NordSpace has been working with the @DeptofDefense, Space Systems Command, and the @SpaceForceDoD to ensure the development of Pad B is strategically aligned. --- NordSpace’s CEO, Rahul Goel, commented - “We are facing another Avro Arrow moment in Canada, and have a decision to make as a nation. Will we remain spectators, or will we aspire to be participants and leaders in the new commercial space era? Canada's environment, economy, security and sovereignty are at stake. Opening the floodgates to space with a Canadian launch vehicle, from a Canadian spaceport, carrying a Canadian payload - that is the definition of sovereign launch, and it will change the shape of our great nation for generations.” When asked to comment on NordSpace's announcement of Spaceport Canada, Space Canada's CEO and former Premier of New Brunswick, Brian Gallant said "The value of developing domestic space launch capabilities, including commercial, cannot be understated as it will allow us to launch Canadian space technologies from Canada. In addition to the fact that the demand for commercial launch services is growing both nationally and globally, given space is a strategic sector playing a pivotal role in defence by protecting our security and sovereignty, Canada needs to enhance its domestic launch capabilities."

Europe has been shy in coming to terms with the legitimate role cooperative space plays in our security and in our geostrategic independence. It is now quite clear, however, that Europe’s space and defence autonomy has become one of our Continent’s foremost priorities. Andrius Kubilius and I have a plan for a coordinated effort to increase European space resilience from space. Our vision is long-term, structured, bold and an important step in permanently integrating security in our collective space efforts. The European Parliament and the European Commission, in collaboration with European Space Agency, organised the ‘General Assembly Defence, Space and Cybersecurity’ to promote dialogue between European and national decision-makers, and industry representatives in the context of the unprecedented geopolitical challenges that the European Union is facing.
