Who will bring to justice those who, even before 5 August 2024, attacked Awami League offices and the homes of ordinary party leaders and activists, and carried out killings? Upon hearing the news of Sheikh Hasina's resignation, hundreds of BNP–Jamaat activists in Jamalpur allegedly vandalized, attacked, and set fire to the homes and business establishments of Member of Parliament Mirza Azam and other senior district Awami League leaders. They first set fire to the district Awami League office in the Bakultala area of the town. Next to that office, they reportedly broke through the gate of the residence of Mirza Azam, the Bangladesh Awami League's Organizing Secretary and seven-time Member of Parliament for the Jamalpur-3 (Melandah–Madarganj) constituency. They extensively vandalized the house and took away all the furniture. Later, people allegedly set the house on fire. In addition, his ancestral home in Madarganj Upazila was also reportedly vandalized and looted. The residence of State Minister for Religious Affairs Md. Faridul Haque Khan Dulal was also not spared. This is the Chaatra Dal, the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which was the main opposition party when Sheikh Hasina's Awami League was in power. During that period, the Chaatra Dal were hugely victimised - many were killed, disappeared or jailed. However, with the Awami League gone, the BNP and Chaatra Dal are ascendent and we are now seeing another face of the student wing, a face that looks eerily similar to that of Awami League's student wing. In the video Chaatra Dal activists are outside a building that was once the house of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangladesh's pre-eminent Independence leader and once the leader of the Awami League. He was assassinated along with his family on 15 August 1975. Here BNP's Chaatra Dal are shouting slogans, apparently to intimidate any Awami Leaguers from coming and putting down flowers. They are shouting slogans that include: "Dhanmondi Thana, Chaatra Dal. The will power of Khaleda zia" (Thana means police station). This suggests that the Chaatra Dal at least believes the BNP is now in control of the police station in the area, and indeed there are very few police, if any at all, present. There is nothing new about this politics, and it is everything people hated during the Awami league period. What has BNP learned from its years in the opposition. Not much positive it seems.

Siddique ul-Islam A.K.A #BanglaBhai from Gabtoli, Bogura was the military commander of Al Qaeda affiliated radical islamist organization Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMB). He gained worldwide notoriety for 500 bombings on August 2005 & terrorist activities. He was given death sentences & was executed by hanging on 2007. On February 07 extremists were seen to claim Bogura as the base ground of Bangla Bhai. They started vandalising & setting fire on Awami League & Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal offices chanting the name of Bangla Bhai. This is clear evidence of involving radical outfits in recent vandalism, mob lynching, arson at addresses linked to Awami League that began on February 05 night with the demolition of historic Dhanmondi 32 building. #Bangladesh #BangladeshCrisis #BangladeshViolence
