The access marks the first time journalists have entered the sites, and it comes after the UAE’s withdrawal from Yemen amid a widening rift between Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. A Yemeni official claimed: “We weren’t able to access locations under UAE control until now. When we liberated it, we discovered these prisons.” President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi has since ordered the closure of all “illegal” prisons in the south.
