Students at St. George’s school in Nairobi are on strike after one of their comrades was assaulted by a teacher for being outside viewing the eclipse. The students slept outside making noise, calling for justice. Police were overwhelmed by the students and could not contain the protest. Parents have arrived at the school in a bid to find a solution but what is clear is that the winds of change are blowing even in schools. The big question is if young girls like these can fight for their rights, what were adults doing at bogus Rhema Festivals pretending to act as if everything is alright?

When you see this video with all the riot police, you would think to yourself that they are dealing with a huge crowd of aggressive, violent, angry people. They you see who they were actually facing. No big mob. No weapons. No banners with angry slogans. No indication of violence or threatening behaviour. What the hell went wrong with our Police? Parents kept spending money because they felt they had no other option. In the last few years, things seem to be changing in UP. Crackdowns on paper leak gangs, STF action against organised cheating rackets and initiatives like Abhyudaya have started challenging the old coaching ecosystem. The message appears to be clear: education should not become a business built on fear, misinformation and exploitation.
