ECI is not authorised to declare who is a foreign national or not…..Nobody has given them the power…..There are other agencies of both central and state govt and courts to act on this…..Any kind of overacting by ECI will be resisted at the appropriate level…..!

Later in 2005, Mamata Banerjee threw a bundle of papers at the Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha, claiming that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants were fraudulently included in West Bengal’s voter list. Then-Speaker and Communist leader Somnath Chatterjee made an even more explosive claim, stating that there were nearly 1.5 crore illegal voters which was supported by another communist leader Indrajit Gupta. Twenty years after those revelations, when the Election Commission of India is working to clean up the voter rolls in order to protect India’s democracy, it is these very political parties that are opposing the effort. Why? Because these parties don’t want to remain in power by respecting the Indian Constitution and the voting rights of Indian citizens, they’ve realized that their only way to stay in power is through the votes of illegal Bangladeshi Muslims and Rohingyas.
