If a massive planetary or moon collision were to occur, large enough to destroy the Earth, could escaping to the Moon or Mars save humanity? I think absolutely not. Such a colossal catastrophe would, first and foremost, disrupt the orbits of neighboring celestial bodies. Furthermore, establishing a self-sufficient, closed-loop ecosystem outside of Earth is nearly impossible. Due to the laws of thermodynamics, life in these isolated colonies, unable to draw sustenance from the outside, would soon become completely extinct.
