In addition to IWOARG, comprised of flagship amphibious assault ship USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7) and amphibious transport docks USS San Antonio (LPD 17) and USS Fort Lauderdale (LPD 28), the U.S. Navy is reportedly tasking several guided-missile destroyers, a Tico cruiser, nuclear-powered fast attack sub, and P-8A Poseidon aircraft to U.S. Southern Command. "The move is part of a broader repositioning of military assets to the SOUTHCOM area of responsibility that has been underway over the last three weeks. The additional assets are aimed at addressing threats to US national security from specially designated narco-terrorist organizations in the region."
