She has survived many tough campaigns BUT…putting me up against her will be the FIRST time we’ve put somebody up who is tested, who has won TWO statewide elections—statewide primary, statewide general elections…I have...

Parnas: A lot of people are saying this idea that, well, Graham Platner hasn’t won statewide, and Janet Mills has. Platner: We have a number of excellent senators who had never run for office or won a statewide race before. I think of Raphael Warnock — nobody’s sitting around today saying, “Oh, he has no right to be in the United States Senate; he’d never won statewide before.” Honestly, I think that’s an argument the establishment makes to protect itself, because of course people who aren’t from the establishment have to come from outside of it — that’s the whole point. And right now, as I go around the state of Maine, we’re turning people out in the hundreds and sometimes thousands at town halls and rallies. People don’t want establishment candidates. They don’t want the status quo. They don’t want candidates who’ve been in office for ages and are part of the same political structure everyone’s fed up with. That’s not where the energy is. People want something new. And I’ll be honest — if we’re going to beat Susan Collins, we can’t run the same playbook we’ve run in the past. We can’t go with establishment politicians chosen by Washington, D.C., running campaigns run by D.C. consultants — by the same political-industrial complex. That’s not what’s going to win. We need something new. We need people who come from the working people of Maine, who are of the working people of Maine, and who are pushing policies that clearly represent and improve the lives of the working people of Maine.
