Illinois parents urgently need school choice alternatives. That was reinforced for me yesterday after my visit to St. Patrick's, a private school in Springfield, Illinois. I was so impressed with the student engagement, discipline and participation – and the teaching of values. Contrast that to nearby Feitshans Elementary, a public school in Springfield. There just 2% of kids read at grade level. Only 1% are at grade level in math. Governor JB Pritzker and Democratic supermajorities killed school choice at the end of 2023.
