You can't possibly say that the only reason to do it is because God will punish you in an afterlife. If God's back was turned, does that mean it would be okay to kill and rob or let people drown or starve? I can think of plenty of secular reasons to do it. Namely, I would not want to be left to starve or drown or die of lack of blood. I would not want to be the victim of murder or robbery. There's nothing special about me, and therefore what I demand of everyone else, I have to accept for myself. It is clear that we would all be better off in a world where everyone helped each other and refrained from hurting each other compared to a society where everyone was a rapacious psychopath. That's why we should be moral. God has nothing to do with it. Ross Douthat (Ross Douthat): What happens in Dr. Pinker's argument is that as an heir of Jewish and Christian civilization, he imports, as this kind of commonsensical position, metaphysical propositions about the existence of these human rights that no one has ever seen of or heard of. He cannot show me a human right under a microscope. We are still the butt of the joke though, because the humor lies in the "self-depricating" way that he would be settling for a trans woman, despite that being what he obviously desires. It's particularly unsettling because of the implication it carries for those future relationships. A situation where a man feels like he is "settling" for a woman means he sees her as less worthy of respect than other, better women. That attitude is what Lundy Bancroft identifies as the attitude from which misogynistic abuse originates.

🚨ZUCK: "We got to a point where there were things you couldn't say that were mainstream discourse. Pete Hegseth is going to defend his nomination for Secretary of Defense on the senate floor. One of the points he made is that women shouldn't be allowed in certain combat roles. Up until we updated our policies, he wouldn't be able to say that on our platform, because it would call for an exclusion of a protected category of people. If it's okay to say on the floor of congress, you should probably be able to debate it on social media. I think some of the stuff that was well intentioned that went to far needs to get rationalized a bit."
