BREAKING: It’s been reported and confirmed that Director Steven Soderbergh is being brought in to complete principal photography on The Batman Part II while director Matt Reeves continues attending to a personal family matter. Soderbergh said in a statement: “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on ‘The Batman’ was stunning;... it was intentional, specific and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.” I’m glad that all parties seem to be in agreement on the best path forward here, as everyone is seeking to do what’s best for all parties involved. For now, I’m going to look back on a favorite Matt Reeves film of mine, the epic second installment in the new Planet of the Apes trilogy, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I’m hoping there’s a light at the end of all this hardship for Reeves, and that he can someday get back behind the camera. My thoughts continue to be with him and his loved ones through all of this.show more

Soderbergh finishing another director's film is a real precedent, but it raises the question of whose movie this becomes. If the styles clash, do you credit Reeves or Soderbergh for the final cut?

Robert Pattinson on Matt Reeves’ ‘THE BATMAN: PART 2’ 🦇 “The script is incredibly dense... [Matt Reeves is] just one of those directors who it’s really obvious that he has the entire thing in his head already... There’s so much in it that it’s almost impossible to encompass the whole thing. It’s so ambitious... the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another… It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.” (via Collider)

THE BATMAN was released 4 years ago. Matt Reeves designed the opening so Batman is mostly seen through shadows and fear. For the first part of the film, criminals react to the signal before he even appears, turning his presence into a psychological weapon.

Matt Reeves' closing remarks in ‘The Batman’ commentary: "You realize just how important this character is to people... We got to carry him for a little while. I hope there'll be more — all that remains to be seen, but it was an honor and a privilege."

I’m happy to say I’ve been collabing with who I think is the game demo GOAT, Matt Shumer, on his open-world NYC game. As AI models continue to get exponentially better at game development, me and Matt hope to keep pushing the bounds of what’s possible with AI game creation. It’s exciting that we’re only in 2026, and there’s still no wall in sight for the scale and complexity of what we’ll be able to create in the future.

Robert Pattinson says he secretly took selfies in the Batsuit during his audition for The Batman, just in case he didn’t get the role. “I remember sneaking a little selfie in it when everyone left the room thinking, if this doesn’t work out… I’ll always have this.” Director Matt Reeves says the process is part of tradition. “You don’t just audition, you do a screen test in the Batsuit.” That test lasted nearly eight hours, and it was brutal. According to Pattinson, Reeves kept asking, "What can we do about this sweat?". Pattinson’s blunt response was that the only solution was to stop drinking liquids entirely Ironically, being stuck in that suit for 8 hours led him to follow Christian Bale's piece of advice: to make sure that the final suit has a "flap" so you can actually use the restroom.

…what? He gave the key for Lanterns to two of the best showrunners in the game, who is leagues above him in the realm of tv. He adopted the screenplay written by THEE Mike Flanagan to honor his Clayface story. He defended Matt Reeves for MONTHS for taking forever on the Batman screenplay. Gunn is by no means afraid of filmmakers or storytellers that people may deem better than him. He loves film and he loves true visionaries.

The scene in The Batman where he first emerges from the shadows and beats up the thugs in the train station was inspired by Goodfellas - specifically the moment where Henry Hill pistol-whips his neighbor. Matt Reeves explains: "I wanted that moment where he says “I'm Vengeance” and Rob comes out and you see him as this Batman for the first time, I wanted it to be like that moment, a shocking moment, in Goodfellas when Henry Hill…the neighbour has assaulted Karen who he's dating, and he gets so angry you see him drive up across the street from the neighbour. He gets out of the car, they look at him coming, and he takes out his revolver, and he beats this guy senselessly. It's shocking, and at that moment you realize the depth of his rage, and just how dangerous he can be. So I wanted Batman at this stage of the movie to kind of shock the audience, and for people to say like “Okay well what kind of Batman is this?” and to see that he was a Batman who acted from this very visceral personal point of view - that this was all about vengeance." Quote comes from the director’s commentary track off The Batman Blu-ray. (play with sound on to hear Giacchino’s epic score)
