🇬🇭 A resident of Shama has praised President John Mahama and the Ministry of Transport for introducing a Metro Mass Bus service between Takoradi and Shama in the evenings, saying it helps curb drivers who inflate fares. According to him, while the normal fare is GHC 8, some drivers charge between GHC 15 and GHC 20 at night, and the new service ensures affordable and fair transport for passengers.

Some trotro drivers have expressed their frustration over the recent directive for a reduction in transport fares. They explained that despite the decrease in prices of certain goods, their vehicle owners have not reduced the daily sales targets they are expected to meet. As a result, lowering fares negatively impacts their earnings. Additionally, some drivers pointed out that the cost of spare parts remain high, making it difficult for them to operate affordably. They are therefore calling on the government to reduce the prices of spare parts to help ease their burden and make it more feasible to lower transport fares.

The Accra Mayor, Hon. Micheal Kpakpo Allotey has confirmed the arrest of six drivers over their alleged collection of unapproved transport fares during the peak evening hours of Wednesday. He however noted that the state has no interest in charging these individuals criminally and as such, they have been ordered to drive passengers to various destinations at no cost.
