Just this year alone, LG has been caught up in some pretty serious privacy and security controversies. 1. LG was sued by the Texas Attorney General over TV surveillance. Texas accused LG of using its smart TVs' Automatic Content Recognition technology to collect what people were watching without properly obtaining informed consent. In May, LG settled the case and agreed to stop collecting viewing data through ACR without informed consent. 2. LG's smart TV app ecosystem was found to contain residential proxy software. Researchers analyzed thousands of smart-TV apps and found that more than 42% of LG's apps they examined contained residential-proxy SDKs. These could allow someone else to route internet traffic through a user's home connection, effectively using their TV and IP address as a proxy. LG subsequently said it would suspend apps that turn its TVs into residential proxy nodes. 3. LG also caught heat over software being pushed to Windows PCs. Gamers Nexus reported that LG's Monitor App Installer could be automatically installed on Windows PCs when certain LG monitors were connected, and that the software was being used to show McAfee advertisements. LG pushed back and said McAfee was only installed with explicit user consent, but the incident still triggered significant criticism over LG's software distribution practices. And now, in September 2026, LG has been caught up in another investigation that is arguably much worse. Gamers Nexus, working with Level1Techs and independent security researchers, bought retail LG OLED TVs and monitored exactly what they were doing on the network. They found the TVs scanning the local network for other devices. Phones. Smartwatches. Printers. HVAC equipment. They were also reportedly logging nearby Wi-Fi networks and signal information. But then researchers found something much more concerning. The TV's microphone was reportedly capturing audio while the screen appeared to be completely off and the TV was in standby. Even after the Ethernet cable was disconnected, the researchers reported that the TV could continue storing the captured information locally and upload it once internet connectivity returned. And here's the part that makes this especially uncomfortable. LG has publicly stated that its TVs do not collect, record, or store ambient conversations. Yet researchers say their testing found voice prompts being logged as text. Meaning the researchers observed speech being captured and processed when the TV appeared to be off. And the investigation also found separate webOS vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the TV. At this point, the question isn't just what LG's TVs are capable of doing. It's who is holding LG accountable? Because it's pretty ironic that the same LG Display that had former employees sentenced to prison for stealing and transferring confidential company technology can turn around and face repeated accusations and enforcement over how it handles information belonging to its customers. Employees can go to prison for taking confidential information from LG. But when the company is accused of collecting information from millions of customers, the consequences seem to be settlements, investigations, and relatively small penalties. How many times does a company have to get caught before someone actually holds it accountable? Because apparently LG isn't running out of ways to find new things to collect. LP-MusicCaps: LLM-Based Pseudo Music Captioning paper page: Automatic music captioning, which generates natural language descriptions for given music tracks, holds significant potential for enhancing the understanding and organization of large volumes of musical data. Despite its importance, researchers face challenges due to the costly and time-consuming collection process of existing music-language datasets, which are limited in size. To address this data scarcity issue, we propose the use of large language models (LLMs) to artificially generate the description sentences from large-scale tag datasets. This results in approximately 2.2M captions paired with 0.5M audio clips. We term it Large Language Model based Pseudo music caption dataset, shortly, LP-MusicCaps. We conduct a systemic evaluation of the large-scale music captioning dataset with various quantitative evaluation metrics used in the field of natural language processing as well as human evaluation. In addition, we trained a transformer-based music captioning model with the dataset and evaluated it under zero-shot and transfer-learning settings. The results demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms the supervised baseline model.
