Utterly disgraceful. In the UK, 12,000 men a year lose their lives to prostate cancer, yet they deem it doing more harm than good? What a shambles

Why is the government spending money on technowank like AI, and digital ID that's doomed to be rejected, when it could be saving people's lives? 😱

NHS don’t have the budget they’re too busy with hiring DEI managers on £80k salaries…

I wouldn't trust the NHS to screen anything. I have multiple examples in my family of them missing cancers on scans. Utterly useless. For anything this important go private.

No competent or sane government would refuse this. @wesstreeting disgraceful..

And yet they are now going to spend millions testing drugs on children as young as 10 which are irreversible. I guess this is what’s been binned to fund it.

What a misandrist decision

My dad would be dead if NHS screenings hadn't found his prostate cancer early enough to treat it. Screenings save lives AND money by finding cancers early enough to treat them quicker and easier (which costs less to the NHS!)

As a prostate survivor I know:PSA testing on its own can create risk but targeted screening makes sense in many other countries.. no reason not here except cost

As a prostate cancer survivor, discovered by luck, this is the wrong decision. Many countries have targeted screening and are using the data to improve the targeting.

Imagine if it were cervical screenings instead, the outrage would be deafening.

Labour don’t want too many living long enough to claim the meagre state pension.

Just feels men not worthy to NHS, women get regular breast screening, cervix tests, HPV jab, we all know men avoid Doctors but a simple finger blood test just not available.

So men pay more tax over their lives, use fewer NHS services over their lives and die earlier, but won’t get screened for the most common cancer? Seems fair.

Because the NHS can't afford to do the required MRIs, which unlike the blood test, provides reliable diagnosis! Costing between £500 to £700 privately!

Not sure about this, seems very difficuly to justify financially given the costs of late treatment. I was diagnosed with prostate cancer the first time over 10 years ago in late 40s. That was through a PSA test. Have since had surgery, two rounds of radiotherapy and now on hormone therapy. There really is a problem with compulsory testing and the very high false negatives these tests can present. However, what is useful is having rwgular psa as a benchmark to monitor changes not raw levels. Do think men over 40 ought to be invited for an annual or biannual test for a range of measures including psa. Having early benchmark levels would help and early treatment really does make a difference. Also, anecdotally, I have heard from several friends and relatives in their 50s who have asked for their annual blood screening to include psa being refused.

There is history of it in my family... Last time I went for the health check I asked about having a test. @NHSuk response was you don't need it... They obs don't really want to carry them out.

A test (PSA in this case) that can be high because you've, rode your bike, had sex, had a bad cold/flu/covid, and can be reduced because you've eaten tomatoes (lycopene) is not a real test. Scaring asymptomatic men into treatment is UNPROFESSIONAL. No Doctor should do this!

Letting people die or get undiagnosed cancer so Labour can say they have gotten appointments down and give themselves a pat on the back is fucking disgusting. Alternately, stop letting in illegals as hundreds of thousands of non UK citizens use the NHS every year.

@wesstreeting what are you doing? Sort this out immediately. You care more about taking away fat kids milkshakes, than men dying.

Disgusting. As a woman, I stand with men in our country who are at risk, who have gone through it, or knows someone who has gone through prostate cancer. Screening should be an absolute necessity FOR ALL!

It’s a blood test that is then fed into a computer to analyse. It can’t be very expensive. Too many people die per year but that’s deemed ok because it’s men 😳

Women have had screening for breast cancer for years. Why should men not have a similar facility? A PSA test has potentially saved my life. Only today I met someone who had his request for a PSA test refused by his GP. Why? Insist especially if in a risk category.
