Netanyahu lays out Israel's terms for Lebanon after signing of surrender framework agreement, vows Israeli occupation will continue as long as Israel deems necessary —— Following the US-brokered framework agreement with Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israeli occupation forces will withdraw from only two pilot areas, insisting that Israel will remain in its self-declared "security zone" in southern Lebanon "for as long as necessary." Calling it a "tremendous achievement," Netanyahu said international pressure to force an Israeli withdrawal had failed, adding that Israel was "breaking Iran's diplomatic axis." Praising the Lebanese government's decision, Netanyahu described it as "an extremely courageous step," claiming that, for the first time in decades, Lebanon was effectively telling Hezbollah and Iran: "Get out. We're making peace with Israel, whether you like it or not." He claimed the move enjoys support among Lebanese Christians, Druze, Muslims, and even some Shias. Netanyahu also said the Lebanese Armed Forces must reform from within, as "there are jihadist elements within the army," and added that the Lebanese government knows it must deal with the issue, saying, "We will, of course, examine this in practice." Netanyahu also reiterated that Israel was never a party to the US-Iran memorandum of understanding, despite the document stating that it was signed by the United States, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and their allies in the current war. He said Israel nevertheless has its own interests, including on the nuclear issue, and is considering sending a delegation to Washington to present its position. Asked about the long-standing description of Lebanon as a political graveyard for Israeli leaders, Netanyahu dismissed the remark, saying, "Who cares?" He added: "Whether it's a political graveyard or not, I will do whatever is necessary to ensure the security and victory of the State of Israel. If we need to enter Lebanon, we will enter Lebanon. If we need to act forcefully there, we will."
