This is an interesting new chapter in telecom history. Qualcomm was founded in 1985 and became a major force in cellular technology, while Huawei, founded in 1987, grew into one of the world’s largest telecom-equipment and patent holders. Today, two longtime technology rivals are cross-licensing patents across 5G, AI, computing and networking—a reminder that even fierce competition depends on shared standards and intellectual property.
