Arnab Tears Into Trump’s Tariff Deadline Praises PM Modi For Putting Nation First Arnab Goswami sharply criticized President Trump's threats of 500% tariffs on countries like India buying Russian oil, calling it economic bullying amid global instability. In a January 8, 2026, segment, he praised PM Narendra Modi for prioritizing national interest over external pressure, emphasizing India's sovereign energy policy. Goswami outlined six strategic points for India to counter the threats independently. Tariff Threat Context Trump's administration advanced a bill imposing at least 500% tariffs on imports from nations trading Russian petroleum or uranium, targeting India's discounted oil purchases from Russia. This follows US seizures of Russian-flagged tankers and Trump's exits from over 66 international bodies, including India's solar alliance. Indian officials rejected related claims of stalled trade deals due to Modi's unresponsiveness. Key Criticisms Goswami dismissed viewing Trump as mere amusement, warning of his global bullying post-Venezuela operations and threats to multiple nations. He questioned the feasibility but stressed preparation, assuming Trump would act unreasonably. In his interview with Jeffrey Sachs, both highlighted US instability and urged India to avoid alignments like the Quad. Praise for PM Modi Goswami expressed full confidence in the Modi government's firm stance, refusing further accommodation beyond limits. Modi refused US trade terms harming Indian farmers and fishermen, leading to higher tariffs but upholding "nation first." This aligns with India's rejection of pressure on Russian oil deals. India's Six-Point Strategy Goswami proposed proactive steps assuming worst-case tariffs: 🔴 Reaffirm energy policy driven by national interest, not US pressure. 🔴 Maintain cordial US ties while building alternatives with Europe and others. 🔴 Boost indigenous defense to reduce reliance on American supplies. 🔴 Position India as Global South leader amid US estrangement. 🔴 Leverage US firms in India to prevent isolation, as America needs the market. 🔴 Accelerate self-reliance in defense R&D, green hydrogen, and energy independence. ‼️‼️🇹🇷🇷🇺🇺🇲 BIG | Turkey is on the verge of executing a historic diplomatic masterstroke to break its years-long defense deadlock with Washington, using its Russian-made S-400 systems as the ultimate bargaining chip. According to major Turkish media reports, including detailed accounts from *Hürriyet*, Ankara is in the final, critical stages of a deal to export its entire inventory of S-400 air defense batteries to a third country—specifically targeting Qatar or other Gulf states. This rapid development comes right on the heels of the NATO summit in Ankara, where U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to lift the long-standing CAATSA sanctions on Turkey. However, because U.S. law strictly forbids the transfer of F-35 stealth fighters as long as Turkey "possesses" the Russian hardware, offloading the S-400s to a trusted intermediary like Doha provides the perfect legal loophole for Washington to certify that the system is completely gone from Turkish soil. An announcement finalizing the multi-billion-dollar deal is reportedly imminent. By shifting the Russian systems to the Gulf, Turkey successfully salvages its $1.4 billion initial investment for the six F-35 jets already sitting in storage in the Arizona desert, clears its path back into the elite Joint Strike Fighter program, and restores its fractured standing within NATO—all while shifting the strategic air defense map of the Middle East. 🇮🇳🇫🇷 SORRY DONALD, THE DEAL IS FRENCH! India Rejects US Pressure & Locks in the RAFALE TSUNAMI! 🌊🤣 While President Trump was busy tweeting about tariffs and complaining that "Modi is not happy" with him, India quietly prepared the paperwork for the Deal of the Century... with France. 💅☕️ Reports confirm India is finalizing the acquisition of 114 Rafale Jets for the IAF AND 26 Rafale-M for the Navy. The "Art of the Deal" just got school’d by New Delhi. Why Uncle Sam is crying: 1. The American Rejection The US pushed the F-18 Super Hornet and F-21 hard. They threatened sanctions, complained about Russian oil, and slapped tariffs on us. India’s Response? "Seen 10: 00 PM." Left on read. We chose the jet that doesn't come with a 'User Manual' written by the US Congress. 2. The 'Made in India' Fortress This isn't just buying; it's owning. Tata Advanced Systems is setting up to build the bird here. 60% Value Retention in India. We aren't just flying them; we are building the ecosystem to replace them with our own AMCA later. 3. Total Dominance (The Two-Front Nightmare) China: Panicking because the Rafale-M on INS Vikrant means the Indian Ocean is a "No-Entry" zone. Pakistan: Already has PTSD from the Rafale sound barrier and the latest wrath in Operation sindoor. US: Realizing that "Strategic Autonomy" means you can't bully India into buying your jets. The Deal Breakdown- --> Navy: 26 Rafale-M (~₹63k Cr) for INS Vikrant. Immediate IOR control. China blocked. -->Air Force: 114 MRFA ALL Rafale jets. Why? Speed + Logistics. We know them, we rule with them. No drama. Macron is visiting next month to likely seal the deal. Trump can keep his tariffs; we’ll keep the best Omni-Role fighter in the world. Strategic Autonomy 1, Bullying 0. France has stood by India through THICK and THIN (1998 Nuclear tests, Kargil, Kashmir). The Ultimate deterrent is loading... 🇮🇳 Why the Su-57 is Still Alive (Despite the Rafale Deal) 🇷🇺 In January 2026, New Delhi moved decisively toward what has already been christened the “deal of the century.” The Defence Procurement Board cleared a proposal to buy 114 Rafale fighter jets, a $36 billion bet meant to reverse the Indian Air Force’s alarming slide in squadron strength. For many, that should have closed the book. The Rafale has performed in combat, the IAF trusts it, and the logistics and training ecosystem is already in place. Add a substantial Make in India component, and the choice looks not just sensible but inevitable. Betting big on Rafale addresses the IAF’s immediate crisis. Keeping Russia in the picture hedges against long‑term dependency on a single supplier, a single geopolitical axis, or a single vision of India’s future force structure. In other words, New Delhi is not choosing between France and Russia. It is choosing flexibility over certainty, leverage over loyalty, and survival over sentiment. The aircraft may dominate the headlines, but the real contest is over sovereignty, and that debate is far from settled. The “Invisible” Problem: The China Factor -->Rafale’s Strengths: a formidable, combat‑proven platformbut still a 4.5‑generation jet. -->The Threat is that China fields the J‑20, a bona fide 5th‑generation stealth fighter. -->The Reality is, in a face‑off, a Rafale may struggle to detect a J‑20 on radar in time to shoot first. -->The Gap India’s AMCA is roughly a decade away. Strategists see the Su‑57 as the only near‑term plug for an anti‑stealth hunter to counter China’s edge now. Buying the Jet vs. Owning the Code -->The core issue of sovereignty over software. This is the strongest case for the Russian option, which controls the jet’s “brain” and integration pipeline. -->France (Rafale) You get world‑class hardware and systems, but the mission software/source code remains French. -->Russia (Su‑57) Moscow is pitching full technology transfer, including source‑code access. That means India can natively integrate indigenous weapons, tailor mission systems, and exercise deeper control over production and upgrades. Industrial head start-A recent audit reportedly found HAL’s Nashik facility is ~50% ready to start building the type, thanks to shared tooling and processes with the Su‑30 line. The High–Low Mix: Mass and Edge Together Framed correctly, this isn’t Rafale or Su‑57, it’s Rafale and Su‑57, by design. The 114 Rafales would fly the vast majority of sorties, air policing, border patrols, and deep strikes, delivering availability, commonality, and proven effects. Layered above, a small Su‑57 cadre (e.g., 2-3 squadrons) would serve as “special forces of the sky” stalking stealth adversaries, opening corridors through integrated air defenses, and prosecuting high‑value targets under emissions control. Industrial Survival Airpower isn’t only about tails on the ramp, it’s about hands on the tools. With Su‑30MKI production ending at Nashik and AMCA still years from serial production, HAL faces a capability cliff. If no new program backfills the gap, lines go cold, certifications lapse, supplier networks atrophy, and the tacit knowledge of master technicians dissipates. Restarting later is slower, costlier, and riskier than keeping the line warm. India’s fighter choice isn’t a beauty contest between French finesse and Russian promises. It’s a three‑part- Strategy counters a stealth‑equipped rival now. Sovereignty owns the software, integration, and upgrade pathways; Survival keeps the industrial engine running until AMCA scales. Bet big on Rafales to restore squadron strength and sortie generation. Keep a limited Su‑57 door open to hedge the stealth deficit, secure code‑level control, and bridge HAL through the AMCA gap. That’s not indecision, it’s flexibility over fidelity. And flexibility, in airpower and statecraft alike, is what ultimately buys strategic autonomy. VIDEO | Saint Petersburg, Russia: When asked about the evolving dynamics between Moscow and New Delhi while the world is watching very closely as he would be travelling to India for BRICS Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin told PTI CEO and Editor-in-Chief Vijay Joshi: "You gave the description yourself and it is true, we enjoy special privileged strategic partnership, that is how I characterise this relationship, it did not occur yesterday or 1 or 5 years ago, this is something we have been working upon for decades, back in 1947, when the Soviet Union established diplomatic relations with Indian Republic, we have been doing everything to support the establishment of a new state, a new independent state, I'm glad to say that, thanks to the hard work and the talent of the Indian people, India has made great, and important achievements in its development. All those gathered here must know that India is one of the leading economies of the world, that shows the highest rate of economic growth, this is the result of hard work that the government has been doing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi... This rate of development has been demonstrated by India while the strategies are implemented, formulated by Modi, as the head of the government of India. We are engaged in a lot of joint efforts, we hope that in upcoming years, we will reach USD 100 billion in mutual trade... We have all the foundations to work more actively and to reach more ambitious goals, and we are not only talking about our plans in energy, including nuclear energy, new platforms will emerge... We have one of the largest investment projects into the Indian economy... Everyone knows that India is very active in pharmaceutical industry, and our economic operators are ready to propose a lot of interesting projects... We have already outlined long perspective plans that are of interest both for India and Russia." Responding to the question of India-Russia relations in the redrawn geopolitical landscape, Russian President Vladimir Putin told, "I don't think this is a case. We are glad that India is developing its relations with all the countries, it's a great country, a large economy, the largest democracy, it is only natural that it develops economy in accordance with its interest with those countries that it deems necessary. Another thing is the US is trying to put pressure on India in some matters, for example, when it comes to cooperation with Russia. Everyone understands that putting pressure on Narendra Modi is detrimental for international relations, and for bilateral relations, doesn't matter from where this pressure comes from. We don't see any negative consequences... As of today, no serious repercussions emanating from the state of affairs, we are developing our ties with India, we deem India to be a reliable partner." #WATCH | Dubai, UAE | On his visit to Dubai, EAM Dr S Jaishankar says, "I arrived in the UAE yesterday. So this morning, I met with Sheikh Mohammed, the President of the UAE. I brought with me a message from Prime Minister Modi, and our conversation focused on our strategic relationship and its various initiatives, such as energy, economic trade, and the energy and trade relationship. The UAE is a major partner for us, so we discussed that. We also discussed other topics. But one of the main points was our Indian community in the UAE, in Abu Dhabi, elsewhere, and in Dubai. At the time of the recent war, their safety and well-being were a major issue. People in India were also concerned. As soon as I arrived yesterday, I met with representatives of the community. I shared their experiences and feelings with the President of the UAE. He also wanted me to share the feedback I received. I did that as well. I think my visit to the UAE was a good one. I discussed this topic with the UAE leadership, including the Crown Prince of Dubai, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Defence Minister, who were present at the meeting today. Yesterday, I had a detailed discussion with the Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah. There's a lot of diplomacy going on these days, and the situation here is quite complex, so we discussed it openly. Overall, I'm happy that this visit happened at the right time and that the dialogue between strategic partners was as open as it usually is."

#WATCH | Delhi: At the joint press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, EAM Dr S Jaishankar says, "India would be one of the very few countries who has very good relations, very strong relations with the United States, with Israel, with Iran, and with the Gulf countries. So we have real interest there. For us, the challenge in this situation is how to maintain all these relationships, how to protect our equities, how to advance our interests. We don't look at it as a zero-sum game. We have to manage and take care of all these accounts. I would say there are some general principles by which we would approach this region. Obviously, we want peace and stability in the region. For us, the welfare, the well-being of the diaspora is crucial. We want to see energy prices go down because we are a very big importer of energy, and much of it comes from that region. As I stated in my remarks, we are very much in favour of safe and unimpeded maritime commerce through the region. What we want to see is really the markets open up there. We don't want to see constraints. So these would be the principles with which we would approach that region and in a way, I think we will find increasingly in the world that there will be conflicts or difficult situations where India, because our interests are growing, we have relationships with all the parties involved, and we are seeing this in the Ukraine conflict as well, where we have very strong relations with Russia, Europe, Ukraine as well, we have it with the United States and then the question is how do you manage all of them. So in that sense, yes, it is multi-alignment because today's India has that range of interests which require us to manage multiple accounts."

#WATCH | Delhi: At the joint press conference with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, EAM Dr S Jaishankar says, "Where defence and security cooperation is concerned, you're all aware that the 10-year major defence partnership framework agreement was recently renewed. A comprehensive underwater domain awareness roadmap was also signed. We discussed the importance of taking into account the Make in India approach and lessons drawn from recent conflicts while going forward in the defence domain. On the economic front, we spoke about the value of concluding at an early date the final text of the interim agreement regarding reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade. This will be an important step towards a comprehensive bilateral trade agreement, which was envisaged during Prime Minister Modi's visit in February 2025. We had a team recently in Washington, and our expectation is that an American team will be visiting India soon for that purpose. We spent some time today discussing energy issues, and again, you're all aware that our government's fundamental responsibility is to address the needs of 1.4 billion people. Ensuring the accessibility and affordability of energy for them is our prime objective. Secretary and I therefore welcome the expansion in our energy trade in recent months. Diversified supplies are at the heart of energy security for India. We devoted some time to nuclear energy cooperation as well. The passage of the Shanti Act has opened up new possibilities. An American delegation was recently in India. We hope to realise the potential of cooperation in the nuclear domain. I also raised with the Secretary some regulatory issues that we have on the American side..."

GEOPOLITICAL SHIFT ALERT: America finally bends the knee. Enter "Pax Silica." The US just announced India will be invited as a full member to the Pax Silica alliance next month. If you're unfamiliar with this, you should pay attention. The 21st century isn't running on oil, it’s running on Silicon. And the Americans just realized they can't win this war without New Delhi. Here is the breakdown of the deal, why India is the kingmaker, and why the US H1B hypocrisy is laughable. What is "Pax Silica"? Think "Pax Americana" but for chips. It is a new US-led strategic blockade designed to secure the AI, Semiconductor, and Critical Mineral supply chains. The goal is to break China’s chokehold on rare earths and tech infrastructure. Members are the US, Japan, UK, South Korea, etc. The Blunder is that when they launched it in Dec 2025, they excluded India. Why the U-Turn? (Why India is Crucial) The US woke up to a brutal reality: You cannot replace China’s manufacturing scale with tiny island nations. -->First is Scale. You need a massive workforce and industrial base. Only India has it. -->Minerals- You need an alternative for rare earth processing. India is the only viable option. Talent- The entire global silicon architecture runs on Indian brains. They tried to build an "Anti-China Tech Wall" without the world's largest democracy. It crumbled before it started. The Irony: The H1B "Overreaction" 🤡 Let’s take a moment to laugh at the American "strategy." -->US Dept of State in Dec 2025: -->Cancel H1B stamping appointments. -->Strand thousands of Indian techies during the holidays. -->Treat the very people powering your tech sector like potential threats with "social media vetting." US Dept of State in Jan 2026: "Please join Pax Silica! We need your help! You are essential partners!" The Message to the US: You cannot harass our engineers at the border on Monday and beg for our geopolitical alliance on Tuesday. If you want "Pax Silica," you'd better fix the "Visa Trauma." You need us more than we need you. How India Dominates from Here 🇮🇳 This invitation is our leverage. We are no longer just a market; we are the factory and the lab. -->Tech Transfer: Demand deep-tech IP sharing, not just assembly jobs. -->The Value Chain: Move from "testing" chips to "fabricating" them. -->Leverage: Use our position in Pax Silica to negotiate better mobility for our workforce. The era of ignoring India is over. The US tried to play hardball and realized they were playing with a wiffle bat against a cricket team. India isn't just "invited" to the table. We are setting the table. Yesterday, a Polish-American-Russian-Moldovan-Belarusian prisoner exchange took place - an analysis by Ukrainian expert Vadym Denysenko. "In this exchange, the US and Russia have diametrically opposed goals. But Moscow appears to have made concessions to Washington, guided by the main principle of communicating with Trump: don't quarrel and stall for time. 1. Formally, this is a 5-for-5 exchange involving seven countries. But when it comes to the key figures, there is one "main" figure for the Poles and two for Moscow. 2. The exchange of the Polish-Belarusian activist Poczobut for the Russian archaeologist Butyagin, who was conducting excavations in Crimea, and for the high-ranking Moldovan security official Bălan, who was spying for Russia, is a complex combination that was pulled off primarily thanks to the US efforts. The Poles are already thanking the Americans. But this exchange would have been impossible without the Russians, who in this particular case have goals directly opposed to those of the Americans. 3. The US goal, aside from a humanitarian one, appears to be a continuation of its idea to enter the Belarusian potash market (which Moscow categorically opposes). Belarus can export fertilizers only through four countries: Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, and Poland. It appears the US is beginning a game to unblock the Polish border, and in the future, possibly the Lithuanian border as well. I emphasize, they are beginning a game. Because neither Washington, nor Warsaw, nor Vilnius has much trust in Lukashenko. And before attempting to play a more serious game, they are trying a small victories tactic. 4. Moscow fully understands the US strategy and therefore agreed to this game, securing two symbolic victories in return: Bălan and Butyagin. The Poles also got what they wanted: Poczobut was personally met by Tusk. At the same time, the Russians are making sure that the potash negotiations do not go beyond the exchange of political prisoners and do not shift to the economic dimension without their knowledge. 5. As for Lukashenko, he simply could not refuse this exchange under pressure from Moscow and Washington. However, all of Lukashenko's previous actions show that he fears a rapprochement with Trump and believes he needs to stall as much as possible and make steps toward rapprochement with Washington more complicated (flirtation with North Korea is a vivid example of this). 6. Simply put, Lukashenko fears Putin more than Trump, and so he will try to stall for as long as possible to keep Americans out of his potash market. He will agree to this only when it becomes part of Russia's game as well. And this could happen when (or rather, if) Russia and Washington expand the scope of negotiations to include Belarus as well. 7. Many people here have started saying that this exchange is virtually a defeat for Ukraine. That is definitely not the case. Ukraine has neither won nor lost anything here. We are just observers. Should we already be getting worked up over this exchange and the game the US is playing in general? For now, definitely not. We are still a long way from the Polish border being reopened. But the game has already begun. And we need to clearly define for ourselves where our place is in this future game, especially given that the Belarusian factor could come into play in the Ukraine-Russia-US negotiations."

🇺🇸🇺🇦TRUMP REPORTEDLY TOLD ZELENSKY TO GIVE UP ENTIRE DONBAS TO RUSSIA🇷🇺 The Financial Times reports that Donald Trump told Zelensky that he should surrender the Donbas region to Putin or risk being destroyed by Russia. Reportedly the meeting between the two quickly descended into shouting with Trump “cursing all the time”, and threw Zelensky’s maps of the war aside, saying he was sick of them. Trump also reportedly added that the Russian economy “was doing great”, effectively admitting that the US’ and Europe’s campaign of sanctioning everything Russian has completely failed. Zelensky still hasn’t understood the basic, brutal modus operandi of Washington’s geopolitics; proxies like him do not actually matter, neither do their countries. He still has not realised Ukraine and its people were used tragically as a battering ram in an attempt to weaken Russia… Washington recognises this goal has completely failed, and now wants nothing to do with this proxy war, and instead wants to turn the war machine of the empire against Iran, and then China. Zelensky’s faith in Europe is also an utter delusion; Europe has no military-industrial complex that can match the military aid that the United States gave to Ukraine. They also have no sovereignty to speak of, if Washington wants the war over, they will not dare to continue it on their own, despite the constant bellicose shrieking of European leaders. Zelensky’s naive and infantile understanding of geopolitics has resulted in him leading Ukraine down the primrose path of destruction, believing all of Washington’s virtue signalling about the importance of ‘the defence of Ukrainian democracy.’ Washington could not care less about democracy, as its long history of crushing democracy abroad through coups, bombings and invasions shows. Zelensky believed the empty words, and refused to wake up to reality. Washington knew Ukraine would be destroyed if they used it to provoke Russia by dangling NATO membership and integration, as outlined by the 2019 RAND corporation report, they did not care. Washington had no interest in a negotiated end to the war until now, because it was trying to bring Russia to its knees, even though every passing day meant more horrific losses for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and loss of territory. Zelensky only has himself to blame. Video: The heated White House clash between Zelensky, Donald Trump and J.D. Vance from earlier this year.

"India will be invited to join US-led initiative Pax Silica as 'full member' next month"- US embassador Sergio Gor Trying to act smart, Trump? But Bharat under PM .Narendra Modi Ji can see through this 'noble gesture'! Why's US Pushing Bharat into Pax Silica: It's All About American Interests, Not Altruism. Let's cut through diplomatic fluff. US inviting Bharat to join Pax Silica—a coalition for securing supply chains in critical minerals, semiconductors, AI & advanced tech—isn't some benevolent gesture. America doesn't do global alliances without hefty dose of self-interest. Here's real playbook on why Uncle Sam wants us in & crucially, how Bharat must play smart to avoid getting trapped in one-sided deal. 👉US Motives- Securing Dominance, Countering China & Tapping Bharat's Assets 1. Countering China's Monopoly: China controls 90% of global rare earth processing & massive chunk of semiconductor supply chains. Pax Silica is Washington's answer to "de-risk" from Beijing—building a "trusted" network of allies to reroute critical tech flows. Bharat, with world's 3rd-largest rare earth reserves (6.9 million tonnes, mostly in coastal monazite sands), is prime target. US wants access to our raw materials to feed their refineries & fabs, reducing reliance on China without lifting a finger on their own soil. 2. Geopolitical Leverage in Indo-Pacific: Pax Silica pulls Bharat deeper into US orbit as a "strategic counterweight" to China. It's about encircling Beijing economically—Japan, South Korea, UK, Israel are already in; adding Bharat's scale (population, market, geography) makes it powerhouse bloc. Trump-era reciprocity means fair trade on paper, but in reality, it's about locking in allies for tech war. 3. Economic Goldmine-Talent, Market & Cheap Resources: Bharat's engineering prowess, booming digital economy & manufacturing push (via PLI schemes) are irresistible. US sees us as a diversification hub—away from Taiwan's risks—for chips & AI. But dig deeper: Raw rare earths sell for $3,000/tonne, while processed magnets (which we'd import back) go for $25000/tonne. Joining gives US firms access to our resources, talent & $3T+ market, boosting their profits while we play supplier. 4. Tech Sovereignty for US, Not World: This's about controlling "operating system of modern power"—silicon, AI, data centers. By inviting Bharat early, US ensures standards, export controls & investments align with American rules, preventing a multipolar tech world where Bharat could pivot to alternatives. 🔥In short, Pax Silica is economic statecraft: Prosperity for US bloc, dependency for others. It's not charity; it's strategy. 👉How Bharat Must Not Fall into the Trap? JOIN, BUT ON OUR TERMS. Bharat should absolutely join—access to tech, R&D & global chains is a win for our semiconductor ambitions (we're already at <1% global production despite reserves). But NOT Blindly. Here's what Modi Sarkar will demand even as members: —Demand Tech Transfer & Build Domestic Muscle: No deal without enforceable clauses for refining tech & joint fabs in India. —Invest heavily in our own processing plants (e.g., expand IREL's capabilities) to avoid exporting cheap ore & importing pricey chips. –Push for co-ownership in AI/logistics standards—don't let US/Japan hog high-value end. —Maintain Strategic Autonomy by Diversifying Alliances. Will Keep balancing with China (via BRICS/SCO), Russia & EU. Bharat won't burn bridges; but will use Pax Silica to negotiate better terms elsewhere. —Safeguard Data, IP & Sovereignty: Enforce strict data localization in AI deals. Protect our startups from IP theft or forced partnerships. Monitor investments via CFIUS-like screening to block backdoor control. —Focus on Long-Term Resilience: Ramp up R&D funding (aim for 2% GDP), skill 1M+ engineers in semis/AI, & integrate with Quad/iCET for broader gains. IF AMERICA AGREES TO THIS, PAX SILICA IS WELCOME. OR ELSE....THANK YOU, BUT NO THANK YOU!

#WATCH | Delhi: "... The LoP has made his point, and I think the government should respond...," says Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, on Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi's allegations that LoP is not allowed to meet visiting dignitaries. He also says, "In a democracy, it would be nice that the visiting dignitaries meet everyone... I think this is an important visit, and in our country, without doubt, many important bilateral relations need to be maintained- with Russia, China, and the US. We cannot accept a proposition that one relationship has to be determined by the nature of another relationship. We should have sovereign autonomy, actually, to decide the terms of our own engagement. Its in that spirit I beleive that we have maintained good relations with Russia, US, and China, at different times and a different emphasis. A lot of talks have already taken place at the expert level to work out some possible agreements that might be signed when President Putin is here, and that would be very valuable for us... Defence cooperation has been very important. We already saw the utility of the S-400 air defence system during Operation Sindoor. There are now discussions of more S-400, or maybe even S-500... There is a possibility of a mobility agreement for our workers. We don't want a situation where our people go for one thing and end up being pressured into the Army. There should be some formal agreement about how these things happen.
