Total Linhas Aereas 737-400 freighter destroyed by a cargo hold fire after making an emergency landing at Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport in Brazil. Three vehicles from the airport's own fire brigade and another five from the Fire Department worked to fight the flames on the airport runway. At around 7 am, firefighters were already doing the rescue work and removing the cargo from the plane. The Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) said it will investigate the causes of the fire and forced landing. No injuries reported during the accident.

The ‘Miracle on the Levee’ was 38 years ago May 24 1988: TACA Flight 110, a Boeing 737 with 45 aboard, lost both engines on a storm over Louisiana (US). Crew - including Captain Carlos Dardano, who had lost an eye years before - lands safely on a grass levee on a NASA facility, as seen on this reenactement of the occurrence for the Mayday – ACI series. Inquiry concluded “that a sequence of technical difficulties led to the uncontained fire”. The aircraft´s pilot, Sqn Ldr Art Stacey, received the Air Force Cross for his handling of the emergency. As a note, the jet´s nose section was recovered from the water and is currently on display at the South Yorkshire Air Museum

Delta Air Lines Flight 1893 was flying from Orlando International to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport when passengers noticed something had partially broken away from the back of the wing. Due to crew actions on takeoff, engine thrust was reduced drastically. The jet lost significant altitude and speed: it flew as low as 153 ft and at a speed of 158 kts before the crew recovered. Boeing inquiry stated the jet lost power after crew mistakenly turned off the engine´s water injection system, reducing thrust, which led to a loss of altitude and speed that put the plane near an irrecoverable stall. To get an idea of how close this came to a major disaster (a 747 loaded with fuel going down in a major city), all of Boeing´s simulations of the scenarios presented in the flight resulted in a crash. Garuda Indonesia Boeing 737-8U3 damaged its radome while flying from Jakarta to Pekanbaru on Saturday. The airline said in a statement, ""After landing, visual inspection by engineers and flight crew showed that the radome (nose of the aircraft) was severely damaged. Currently, it is still in the investigation process because the cause of the damage is not yet known."
