At around 7 am, firefighters were already doing the rescue work and removing the cargo from the plane. The Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) said it will investigate the causes of the fire and forced landing. No injuries reported during the accident.

The ‘Miracle on the Levee’ was 38 years ago May 24 1988: TACA Flight 110, a Boeing 737 with 45 aboard, lost both engines on a storm over Louisiana (US). Crew - including Captain Carlos Dardano, who had lost an eye years before - lands safely on a grass levee on a NASA facility, as seen on this reenactement of the occurrence for the Mayday – ACI series. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating after a flap on a Boeing 737’s wing partially broke off before landing in Texas on Tuesday. Delta Air Lines Flight 1893 was flying from Orlando International to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport when passengers noticed something had partially broken away from the back of the wing. The airline said in a statement, "After landing it was observed that a portion of the left wing’s flap was not in place. The aircraft has been taken out of service for maintenance. Inquiry concluded “that a sequence of technical difficulties led to the uncontained fire”. The aircraft´s pilot, Sqn Ldr Art Stacey, received the Air Force Cross for his handling of the emergency. As a note, the jet´s nose section was recovered from the water and is currently on display at the South Yorkshire Air Museum

Report pointed to pilot actions, namely the decision to proceed with the landing attempt in poor weather, stating it was safer to divert. Inquiry noted that the crew failed to follow SOP in adverse weather. The captain assumed control of the aircraft, but the trainee pilot did not immediately monitor the instruments, leaving the crew unaware of the rapid descent during the critical seconds when the accident might have been avoided. Investigation of the crash site was hampered by looters, who removed various items from the wreck as scrap. A US$500 reward was offered and successfully led to the return of the flight data recorder.
