OpenAI CEO: “Goalposts keep getting moved” - if we were still using AGI definitions from 10 years ago, many would say GPT-4 is AGI. “In one year, AI will be dramatically more impressive.” He also said (surprisingly confidently - he did not hedge like usual) AGI is less than 10 years away. In the long term he’s not concerned about AI taking jobs, but he is concerned about the speed that AI will disrupt the job market. --- INTERVIEWER: What is AGI? When will it be here? And how will we know it's here? Predict how long - we'll call you in ten years? SAM ALTMAN: Less than that. We kind of define AGI as like the thing we don't have quite yet. there were a lot of people who would have ten years ago said, alright, if you could make something like GPT-4, GPT-5, maybe, that would have been an AGI. And now people are like, well, it's like a nice little chatbot or whatever. And I think that's wonderful. I think it's great that the goalposts keep getting moved, it makes us work harder. But I think we're getting close enough to whatever that AGI threshold is going to be, that we no longer get to handwave at it and the definition is going to matter. 🥟 you thought happy cell was the best? ha.. but it was more fun than i feared it would be! thankfully hehehe 🥟 i mean usually when i go to the company all the employees are just working and its all very business-like you know? and im like that too im not really the type to walk around going "hehehe" and smiling all the time like that 🥟 so at first i was like 'ah... seriously how am i supposed to survive the company life from now on..' but once we actually did it there were way more people who liked us than i thought there would be and since we made people laugh a little while they were working i'd like to think we made it a pretty memorable day for them too

There was an engineer inside who thought it was sentient. Think of it as an early version of ChatGPT. In the multiverse, Google probably shipped that 9 months earlier... but the version I saw was a lot more toxic at a level we couldn't have possibly put it out. As a company with this search quality bias, we had a higher bar for what we thought was acceptable product quality. I think they were lucky to also see it on the coding side with GitHub. Maybe there was a signal we were missing. The jumps between GPT-2 and 3 and later 4 were more pronounced if you were using it for coding.

it's been more than 10 years, right? since I was 14 to be exact. it's been more than 13 years now. during those 13 years with mark hyung I relied on him so much and learned a lot from him. when I was shaken or unsteady he kept me from falling apart. I've rarely let the members see me cry other than at concerts or performances, but there were times when I've called him over the phone while in tears. to me he's always been more than just a member. even though he's the youngest in his family and I'm the eldest in mine, to me, he really was my hyung ... truly. because he was more of a hyung than any other hyung, I depended on him a lot over those 13 years. I think that's why a lot of people were worried for me, since they know how much I relied on him, so I'm really really grateful.

We won first place on Music Bank today with WYLD and I really feel grateful for all your hard work, sincerity, and everything. I think this WYLD activity was very meaningful, and it was my first full-length album, and my biggest desire was to show a really improved version of myself over the past two years, and I also thought a lot about wanting to be recognized, but since I didn't have those thoughts, I did have a lot of doubts about whether it was okay to make music on my own. You all have created such a wonderful situation for me, and since I am receiving all your hearts, memories, support, and passion, it feels like passion is pouring into my heart once again. I am so grateful, and I really didn't expect to win first place today. So, I actually didn't prepare an acceptance speech, so it was really funny, right? I think I was rambling a lot. I don't think I remember it very well, and I feel really dazed. I'm still dazed right now, and I was so flustered that I even wondered, "How did I even shed those tears?" It was actually a really stressful situation for me to begin with. I couldn't sleep well and kept having nightmares, and I was spending each day hoping that things would improve because of this album, but I am so, so grateful for you creating such a wonderful situation.
