I did a staycation at the hotel formerly known as Postcard Inn (or PCI to us locals), which suffered immense damage after Hurricanes Helene and Milton in 2024. It’s called The Luce, an upscale version of PCI and is now referred to as a boutique hotel. The St. Pete Beach resort has new owners and it’s a testament to Floridians’ resilience with workers having had to clear out over five feet of sand from the premises. The hotel opened a little over two months ago and I highly recommend visiting it, either as a staycation (I met a few people from Orlando who did so) or if you’re looking for a place to stay when you come to Florida. Now there's another development. The MOD has confirmed funding for a new digital system covering: Communications. Data handling. The mobilisation process itself. And it goes considerably further. The Government is developing Defence Readiness legislation intended to prepare Britain for crisis or war — including industry, infrastructure, resources and the mobilisation of wider defence capacity. The Strategic Defence Review itself discusses Britain's ability to make a “transition to war” if required. Let's be absolutely clear. This does NOT mean 95,000 veterans are about to be called up. Britain has NOT announced civilian conscription. And this does NOT prove World War III is coming. But Britain is rebuilding the legal, digital, military and industrial machinery it would need if a major conflict came. So the questions are unavoidable: WHY NOW?
