I advise you Peter to better travel to United States to meet Trump directly or meet Antonio Gutierrez the United Nations Secretary General and make your best complains to him so they'll hear and come and rescue Nigeria. Illitrates parrots disgracing themselves and thinking they're disgracing Nigeria.

This guy has gone nut to be honest, Imagine reporting to international communities about real-time electronic transmission when them don't practice it. I pray most of us receive sense in this country in the mighty name of Allah.

Respectfully, much of this feels like noise. Democracy did not originate in the United States, so we should stop acting as if it is the sole blueprint. What we have done over the years is not thoughtful adaptation, it has often been blind imitation and without considering our unique realities.

But wait, isn’t UK 🇬🇧 doing paper ballot system and manual counting only? Also, the United States also do manual counting if court cases arise. If it becomes ‘mandatory transmission only’ and network fails somewhere, doesn’t that mean the votes cast there will be annulled?

Are we a state under the US ? Why do these people behave like the US as a country filled with her own 1001 problems will want to help nigeria. Instead of collectively demanding for changes and referendum for a regionalized system of government; we are crying at the embassy of another sovereign nation..

Did the USA 🇺🇸 & other countries they were reporting to depends on real time or solely on electronic transmission of election results. These guys just dull anyhow & they continue displaying their foolishness while the gullible Nigerians keep hailing them & their foolish drama.

Dear @DonaldTrump @POTUS @UN @hrw The Nigerian government under @officialABAT with the help of the Senate @NGRSenate @nassnigeria is set to rig the next election by rejecting mandatory electronic transmission of results. Our politicians are ANTI-DEMOCRATIC.

By taking the issue to the international community, he’s highlighting concerns about electoral credibility and urging global attention. The core point is simple — without transparent elections, lasting peace and stability in Nigeria could be at risk.

What the US can realistically do (limited leverage): - Issue public statements or reports criticizing electoral backsliding (e.g., via the annual US State Department Human Rights Report or democracy/country reports), which can embarrass the government internationally. - Tie future aid, trade preferences (e.g., AGOA eligibility), or visa policies to governance improvements—though this is rarely done explicitly over one electoral clause. - Support civil society, media, or observer groups indirectly through grants (via USAID or partners), helping amplify local protests. - In extreme cases, impose targeted sanctions (e.g., visa bans on officials involved in corruption or rights abuses), as seen recently in unrelated Nigerian cases involving religious freedom or other issues. What the US almost certainly cannot do: - Directly compel or order the Nigerian Senate/National Assembly to pass (or amend) a specific clause in the Electoral Act. - Override Nigeria's sovereignty on domestic law-making—the US Embassy has no legal or executive authority over Nigerian legislators. - Force Akpabio personally to change his position or the Senate's vote (e.g., the recent adoption of electronic transmission as default but with manual Form EC8A as fallback when networks fail, despite protests demanding mandatory real-time uploads without fallback). Evidence from the current context (2026 Electoral Act amendments): - Protests (including at the National Assembly, with figures like Peter Obi, Oby Ezekwesili, and CSOs) have focused on domestic pressure—demanding mandatory real-time e-transmission to curb rigging. - The Senate (under Akpabio) defended the compromise (electronic default + manual backup for network issues) citing practical reasons like poor coverage in some states, and the bill has advanced toward presidential assent without apparent foreign intervention shifting it. - Historical pattern: In 2021–2022 reforms (which introduced optional e-transmission), international observers (EU, US, Commonwealth) praised parts but criticized loopholes—yet the Nigerian legislature made the final call, and courts later upheld that e-transmission isn't constitutionally mandatory unless legislated clearly. In short: Appealing to the US Embassy might raise visibility or add mild international reputational pressure, but it won't "make Akpabio pass" mandatory e-transmission. Domestic political majorities (APC control in the National Assembly), internal incentives, and sovereignty limit what any foreign embassy can achieve here. The protester's effort isn't completely pointless for awareness-building, but expecting direct US Embassy enforcement is indeed overly optimistic

Why do we have to involve the international community before we can achieve things There’s nothing the USA embassy can do to make akpabio pass the electronic transmission of result Unless we want to deceive ourselves They should not even bother to go and disgrace their self
