If I was personally saving an extra £1000 a year from tax cuts I wouldn’t complain, but these are businesses, I imagine this is a drop in the ocean for many of them. Employees certainly won’t see a penny from this. So far all I’ve seen from Burnham has been headline chasing fluff to curry favour and give the illusion of change.

Since July 2024, Labour has raised business rates on this sector by 72-80%. According to some reports, the rates have increased by 100% While 20% gives some relief, it will make little difference in the downward trajectory of this sector.

@andyburnham needs to wake up, reverse hiked employer's national insurance and restore UK manufacturing confidence to stimulate employment and táx̌ receipts.

Yet pharmacies on high streets are not included in this business rate relief. Over 1000 pharmacies have closed in the past few years and the closures will continue in the coming months.

Sky obsessed with how government are going to pay for small amounts of help for our businesses, but says nothing when Starmer gave billions to Ukraine, millions to France to stop the boats, billions on carbon capture. Give our pubs some help and they want every tiny detail

Should be for independent cafes as well don't cut them for Nero, Costa and Starbucks they get away with paying no or very little tax, McDonald's need hammering as well for the amount of litter strewn all over the place from lazy people.

Labour put rates up and then the King of the north reduces them slightly, for a few, and claims he (Labour) is the saviour! To destroy something and then recover it slightly is not progress- it is regress!

20% of hospitality will be shut by April

Pubs closed at an average of one a day last year, there are about 45 000 left. If pubs continue to close, the tax take will go down and more jobs will be lost adding to the cost, so it would be self funding to give them a more substantial business rate cut.

Since Labour came in business rates 4 hospitality have risen average 48%-Reeves then announced a 15% cut & now burnham is announcing a 20% cut-Is this on top of the 15% announced-if it is hospitality are now only 13% worse off since labour came in-I suspect its only 20% in total
