We've moved away from that, and this tripolar world that the administration seems intent on establishing—the United States, Russia, China with spheres of influence—I understand the motivation for it, but I worry very much where it leads. Because you're a student of history, so am I. We know in this 19th-century view of the world—where great powers get to do what they want and everyone else has to suffer what they must—it is not a recipe for stability. It's not a recipe for peace. The big powers in their spheres inevitably want more, and the elbows get sharp, and then they're keeping down people in their own countries or people in countries within their sphere.
