#BREAKING: Happening now: Jewish students at The Cooper Union have been locked in the school library by security due to threats from pro-Hamas students. Reportedly, a pro-Hamas protest was taking place outside; when participating students learned Jewish students were in the library; they brought the protest inside and started barricading all exits. Security locked the Jewish students in as they are afraid they cannot adequately protect Jewish students right now.

Pro-Pals are chanting “Long live the Muqawama” to get around the ban on intifada. It means resistance and is the “M” in the acronym Hamas. Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue though for non-Arabic speakers.

Today, I attended my first pro-Israel demonstration in Chicago. Having participated in a pro-Palestine march years ago in the same city, I want to share my observation of the atmosphere and messages conveyed. The pro-Israel demonstration was notably peaceful, with no chants advocating for the harm or destruction of any group, even Hamas. The focus was on a desire to live and the right to exist, followed by music and dance. Speakers expressed deep sorrow and urgency about bringing hostages home, while a small pro-Palestine group was chanting "From the river to the sea." right next to them. This differed greatly from my experience at the pro-Palestine demonstration, which centered on destroying Israel and Zionism, celebrating martyrdom, and included anti-Jewish rhetoric. You could feel the anger and rage in the air. I empathize deeply with Palestinian children who wish only for peace. Sadly, their aspirations are overshadowed by the actions of pro-Palestine groups around the world and the violence perpetrated by Hamas.

An IRGC-affiliated terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Apparently, their actual target was not the ambulances but the Machzike Hadath synagogue next door. They have previously attacked synagogues in Liège and Greece on Wednesday, as well as carrying out an arson attack on a synagogue in Rotterdam. They claim they chose the synagogue because of a century-old link with a rabbi who later moved to Israel, though he was not, as they claim, the “first chief rabbi of Israel.” The synagogue itself is certainly not a “main bastion of support for Israel,” but a small local synagogue used mostly by ultra-Orthodox Jews. The Jewish and Persian-exile communities in the UK have been begging the government to make the IRGC illegal in the UK due to its persistent and credible terror threats against British citizens. They pleaded with the police to deal with activists who have been using their platforms on IRGC-sponsored media to spread deranged conspiracies about Jews in Britain, specific schools and synagogues, and even individual families. But the police failed to act, and when Jewish groups attempted private prosecutions against these psychopaths, the CPS and the courts failed too. They failed—and now this.

Aggressive demonstrations have taken place outside synagogues and taken over Jewish neighbourhoods, calls of ‘Death to the Jews’ have been chanted in front of Jewish schools — some of which have been shot at while others threatened with bombs — Jewish businesses have been vandalized, and Jewish students have been assaulted on campus. And yet those behind these incidents try to claim they are being vilified as antisemitic. They claim they have nothing against Jews. Well, let this erase any misconceptions: here is yet another proof point that their targeting of the Jewish community is calculated and deliberate. It’s long past time that the hateful people behind this and every other antisemitic act are held accountable. Law enforcement stepping up to put a stop to this is exactly what is needed and what we've been calling for.
