🚨BREAKING: 30-year-old Sudanese man charged with attempted murder as protests begin across Northern Ireland tonight 🎤Chief Reporter James is in north Belfast. Police say the man has also been charged with possession of an article with a blade or point in a public place and making threats to kill. The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital. PSNI Chief Constable Jon Boutcher has outlined the route the man took to enter Northern Ireland in 2023, where he claimed asylum upon arrival. He was granted leave to remain in the UK until 2028. The PSNI has declared a "critical incident" in response to the attack, which was captured on video and appears to show a man stabbing at the victim's head and neck while he was lying on the ground. The footage shows members of the public, including one person carrying a hurling stick, intervening to stop the attack in the Kinnaird Avenue residential area, close to the busy Antrim Road in north Belfast. A kitchen knife was recovered from the scene. Police said the suspect lived close to where the attack took place. There have been calls for calm as protests begin across Northern Ireland tonight.

A delivery driver in Lurgan was threatened at gunpoint and forced to drive his car, with an object inside, to the town’s police station, sparking a security alert, Police Service of Northern Ireland Assistant Chief Constable Ryan Henderson has said. DUP MP Carla Lockhart MP says the situation is deeply concerning and not something anyone wants to see. Around 100 homes have been evacuated, and it’s understood a controlled explosion has taken place. There are numerous road closures in the area. Lurgan Town Hall has been opened for affected residents. A heavy police presence remains in the town. Justice Minister Naomi Long MLA has described it as a “shameful and dangerous attack.” Ulster Unionist Party Leader Jon Burrows MLA says it is a clear attack on the Police Service of Northern Ireland and is causing significant disruption. I was punched and knocked out.' 🎤Inspector Róisín Brown shares her story with Chief Reporter James about being assaulted while on duty. Following the attack, she was taken to hospital and later signed off work for a period of time. She details the mental toll it took on her as well as the impact it had on her family. On average, nine officers are assaulted every day. The Police Federation for Northern Ireland is calling on legislators and the courts to take "tough and decisive action" to address this unacceptable level of violence. The call comes as part of a new public campaign titled ‘Let Them Protect’.

Over 2500 people have taken shelter in the Nulhar Mahadev temple in Nuh of Haryana near Gurugram after they came under attack. Stones thrown, cars set on fire and mob violence in progress. Brij Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra was being held by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and suddenly stopped by a group of young men on the Gurugram-Alwar National Highway after stones were thrown at the procession. Internet has been shut in the area. Police hasn’t been able to evacuate the stranded till now. Reinforcements have been sent in the area.
