Russia claims it has conducted a test of a new nuclear-tied cruise missile, the Burevestnik, on October 21. According to Gerasimov, the missile flew 14,000 km and showed it was capable of bypassing the air defense system. Putin called Russia's nuclear forces "the most powerful in the world" and said Russia will "continue developing its strategic capabilities." The Burevestnik missile belongs to the category of nuclear-powered missiles and has a virtually unlimited range. Its tests have repeatedly caused concern in NATO because of the potential dangers of radioactive contamination.
