Trump is applying maximum pressure to Iran, squeezing them until they capitulate and give up their nuclear ambitions. Trump does not want war, which is why he is feinting and giving Iran one last chance to surrender. Trump’s preferred avenue is a diplomatic resolution. He is posturing and preparing forces to let them know he is not bluffing, but he will call off the dogs if Iran come to their senses and recognize they have no path to victory. They can either give up their nuclear program the easy way, or the hard way, and Trump is going to give them every opportunity to choose the easy way.
