Rather than engage the substance of Miller’s argument, Tapper reached for the oldest cable-news escape hatch: pretend not to understand it. TAPPER: “I don’t even know, honestly, what you’re talking about right now.” Miller didn’t let it slide. MILLER: “You love doing that smarmy thing, Jake, and I was hoping you’d be better than that this time.” Tapper tried to reset. TAPPER: “I asked you if there would be an election in Venezuela. That’s what I asked. I said, why was the president so quick to dismiss Machado? You answered that question…” But Miller cut straight to the point. MILLER: “Because the objective, Jake, is the security and stability for the people of Venezuela.
