I think it’s great, kids are there to learn, not play on their phones

Exactly!

Why wasn't this done YEARS ago is my first thought.

@JusticeWeighed Good question. It should be done nationwide.

I think parents need a way to have direct access to their children at all times. I also can see how cell phones can be a distraction in the classroom. I don't know if an outright ban is the answer tbh.

@WhiteTeeTurnip Perhaps turning them in to the teacher at the beginning of class, while keeping them readily available, could be a reasonable outcome.

Seems reasonable to me G.

I’m not a fan of this, given the rising violence in our schools and the growing lack of accountability from school administrators who fail to vet teachers with criminal backgrounds.

Ok, then put cameras in all classrooms with audio for parents to watch. Teachers prey upon students, contradict their parents and now he’s eliminating their ability to keep a record of wrongs.

We have already done that here in Virginia thanks to Youngkin and Winsome Sears.

I’m not in favor of this until we purge the schools of indoctrination & allowing violent thugs to attack their classmates and teachers with impunity. Or, put cameras in every classroom and hallway that are available to parents to view. Schools shouldn’t be camera-free zones.

Thats good but there should be a camera in every classroom for parents to see what's going on.

That’s great! But what he really needs to do is ban the ‘Sharia City” development in Texas! Sharia does not belong in Western civilization!

The only downside to it is that the phones are a direct line to parents in an emergency.

They have been banned in New Zealand schools for 18 months now, the left went mental at first but seems to be working well now. It gives the kids more time to learn Te Reo

When my kids were huddled during an active shooter incident at their high school, I'm glad they had their cellphones.

I doubt that is a good idea. Parents are giving their child a phone for safety reasons, allowing them to track the child's location and communicate with the parents if something happens.

Mixed. I'm less worried about the education damage done through tech access than I am the personal damage done by modern teachers free from being recorded. The kid can catch up on learning, if they want. They can't undo the terror brought by activist teachers.

It’s a great move but I want to see cameras in every classroom. Never trust a teacher.

This bill is disconnected from the realities of Texas public schools, particularly in larger districts. Many middle and high schools depend on students using cell phones for various purposes. Existing district and teacher policies already address cell phone use, making this bill unnecessary. It’s a PR stunt that adds stress for classrooms and parents. Ironically, my daughter’s school requires her to have a personal device. This bill wastes taxpayer money and time.

Mixed. I worked a school shooting at a football fieldhouse & the school was locked down as we hunted for the shooter (parent/coach), the kids inside the school who had phones actually helped us by keeping parents out of our way once they heard their child was safe and locked in.

Good idea, how did whole generations before live without a cell phone?

Dumb. How about some home training so kids don’t allow their phones to be distractions? I wanted access to my kids in case something happened at school that I needed to know about. Several times they went on lock down and we would’ve had no idea if our kids didn’t inform us.

Until the teachers wear body cams it’s a no. How will we get to see their leftist madness without kids recording it?

I don’t like it for high school aged students. I understand that it can be a distraction but I am against anything the government wants control over.

It’s not necessary. Parents don’t need to be able to be in contact with their kids while in school. Generations since the beginning of time have succeeded without cell phones. My kids didn’t have them until they were starting to drive on their own.

My kids can bring cell phones to school... But they must be turned off and kept out of sight or it is confiscated till the end of the day. Phones are allowed to be used in an emergency situation only.

What about emergencies? How about we just ban schools and let families teach their kids?
