There it is ‼️ Today 51 Democrats fled Texas to block the Republicans redistricting map, it turns out they’ve done this before in Texas In 2021 Democrats pulled this same stunt to stop an election bill, “THE COURTS BACKED THE GOP and said lawmakers could be forced back” Democrats are going to lose “51 Democrats have fleed this state to block the Republicans redistricting map. So today House Democrats left Texas to stop Republicans from passing a redrawn congressional map, one that would add five red leaning districts ahead of 2026. With the GOP holding a majority, this was the only move Democrats had left. Leave, break quorum and grind the House to a halt. Can they do that? Technically, yes. Legally, no. Under Texas law, lawmakers who skip sessions to block legislation can be fined, arrested or even held in contempt. The attorney general says they'll assist law enforcement to bring them back. And Governor Abbott is fully on board. The Texas Constitution allows each chamber to compel attendance and punish disorderly conduct. Some people are now saying a manhunt is going to begin. But in 2021, Democrats pulled the same stunt over an election bill and the courts backed the GOP and said lawmakers could be forced back. And now it's happening again. And this matters because this redistricting map could reshape power in Texas for the next decade, and Republicans are working to lock that in before 2026. It's kind of crazy because Texas Democrats are literally on the run trying to stop the GOP from redrawing these districts.“
