That would necessitate and auto rotation landing. The video showed the rotors missing and the tail boom sheared off. SOMETHING else ALSO happened.

Fuel is probably not the problem, it looked like the how rotor assembly sheared off. If it was a fuel problem the pilot could have auto-rotated down to the surface of the water and then ditched. As it was the body of the helicopter hit the water upside down.

Isn’t checking the fuel gauge part of a startup checklist of some sort?

I'm willing to bet running out of fuel will not explain how the tail and rotors ejected from the aircraft.

This makes zero sense on any level. You don't take off for a planned flight with not enough fuel. No pilot would ever do this. Even if he did run out of fuel his aircraft would not come apart. His engine would flame out, he would make a mayday call that he was performing an autorotation and the chances are above 90% that he would have landed safely somewhere in a parking lot near the river. I can say with almost 100% certainty that this will be totally and completely debunked.

The helicopter blew into several pieces. Running out of fuel doesn’t cause helicopters to break apart mid air.
