I completely support this decision. Where are they supposed to get the compensation from? The tens of billions of profits they make every year? The multimillion bonuses the CEO takes home per annum? No, that simply wouldn’t be fair. The poor people must suffer more.

Airlines still owe meals, hotels and a refund or reroute. The “extraordinary circumstances” line only blocks the cash payout; not the duty of care. Check travel insurance next.

Had a 21 hr delay recently coming home from Turkey. @TUIUK refused my compensation request for the cancelled flight citing extraordinary circumstances. They weren't even prepared to reimburse the cost of phone calls & Internet in trying to sort things out when nothing was offered

What’s extraordinary is the CEO’s £1.4 million salary including bonuses for presiding over 3 of these extraordinary circumstances and that they couldn’t stump up a few quid in compensation from their last years £243 million profits.

Compensation is additional. Compensation for being disrupted. Nothing to do with duty of care which legally every airline/ insurance has to pay for. Ie replacement flight, hotel, food.

Passengers should at least be refunded any money they have lost through this. Flight refund plus hotels they had paid for etc. the hotels won’t have to refund people cos it’s not their fault they couldn’t get.
