Authorities say 47 year old Nuno Loureiro, a professor of nuclear science and engineering and physics at MIT and director of the Plasma Science and Fusion Center, was pronounced dead at a hospital after neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots. As investigators continue to search for answers, speculation is mounting over whether the killing was random or whether Loureiro may have been targeted because of his groundbreaking work.
