1,000 days ago, Hamas terrorists attacked a roadside bomb shelter where 27 people had crammed inside to take shelter from ongoing rocket fire. They murdered Bedouin-Israeli Osama Abu Eisa. They threw grenades into the bomb shelter; Aner Shapira heroically threw seven of them back out before the eighth one exploded, killing him. They took five hostages: US-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, whose arm had been blown off by a grenade, and who was murdered in captivity 10 months later; Or Levy, who was held hostage for 491 days and whose wife Eynav was murdered in the bomb shelter; Eliya Cohen, who was held hostage for 505 days and whose girlfriend Ziv Abud survived the massacre in the shelter; Raz Bokovza, who was shot dead when he jumped from the Hamas pickup truck and tried to escape; Alon Ohel, who was held hostage for 738 days. The IDF confirms carrying out several airstrikes in the Gaza Strip overnight and this morning, in response to a "blatant violation" of the ceasefire yesterday. Among those killed in the strikes was a Hamas terrorist who infiltrated the Re'im military base during the October 7, 2023, onslaught, according to the IDF. The military says the strikes targeting terror operatives in northern Gaza, Gaza City, and Khan Younis came after five Palestinian gunmen emerged from a tunneland approached troops on the Israeli side of the ceasefire line last night. The targeted terror operatives "had recently been working to restore the capabilities of the terror organizations in the Strip and were advancing terror attacks against IDF troops and the State of Israel," the IDF says. One of the strikes killed Ahmad Bayouk, who the IDF says raided the Re'im military base on October 7. Meanwhile, the IDF also announces that a strike on Monday, in response to an attack by gunmen on troops in southern Gaza's Rafah a day prior, killed a Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander. Azem Abu Huli, who headed Islamic Jihad's elite forces in the Strip's center, was responsible for supplying weapons to other terror operatives, as well as advancing attacks against troops, the army says. Abu Huli commanded Islamic Jihad terrorists who invaded Israel on October 7, and throughout the war also trained operatives "to practice scenarios involving the abduction of IDF soldiers," the IDF adds.
