Because of the Democrats reckless shutdown, tens of thousands of DHS employees are still not being paid. This includes patriotic frontline workers at FEMA, U.S. Coast Guard, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. This is now the longest shutdown in U.S. history. Democrats need to stop holding these hard-working DHS employees pay hostage and putting politics above national security.

Why won’t they just take yes for an answer? If you’re going to fund 95% as we did the balance of the government, why not do the balance of DHS with the exception of ICE?”

The House passed a measure late Friday night to fund every agency under the Department of Homeland Security at current levels through May 22, marking the latest attempt to end a partial government shutdown that began on Feb. 14. Still, the government shutdown appears far from over as the 60-day funding measure heads to the Senate, which began a two-week recess after unanimously passing a different bill overnight following weeks of stalled negotiations. The Senate bill funds all of DHS except ICE and parts of CBP, but excludes immigration enforcement reforms demanded by Democrats after the fatal shootings of two Americans in Minnesota. House conservatives opposed the Senate legislation because it lacked funding for immigration agencies and did not include voter ID requirements. House Democrats, meanwhile, said they would not approve funding for immigration enforcement without a number of reforms, which Republicans have repeatedly rejected.
